So... I'm thinking about moving from the US to Belgium. Anyone have any suggestions on how to find a job, place to live, learning the government/politics, culture, etc etc...?

I'm planning on doing this a little less than a year from now. so, I have time.

thanks

There are courses that you can take when moving to another country to help prevent culture shock and help with everyday activities (language, finding jobs, housing, economics, etc). Some of the courses deal with language only, while others will deal with the differences in cultures (some even include stress management). I'm not sure how you find the courses, like where and when offered.

I know about them because we have some friends that are missionaries and have moved. The courses that they took were designed to help them with the language and with all the differences in culture. Some of them had to have follow-up courses in the country where they moved.

I tried Googling that, but I couldn't find anything about those courses. I just must be searching the wrong word(ing). Maybe someone will come up with the right terminology to find it.

Good luck with that and the move! That's a big change.

I appreciate all the suggestions everyone.

Well, as I said it's a little less than a year away and a lot could happen between now and then. If I go, I wont be alone, I will be with a native Belgian. I will check into the courses, but that's not my biggest fear. I think it's probably one of the closest cultures to the US... My biggest fear is being able to find a job, applying for a visa or getting married etc etc...

I like the thought of being in that culture and learning more French. I've always been a sponge for that kind of thing. And no I'm not interested in Holland... cannabis is legal in Belgium too.
