So I am not having much luck getting my website started. My latest problem is this:

"You cannot connect to manage.ixwebhosting.com because ssl is disabled."

I'm trying to use "My FTP Places" and usually use Firefox as a browser. In Firefox, I've gone to Tools...Options...Advanced, to ensure that both SSL 2.0 & 3.0 are enabled, and they are, but I still get that message. What do I do now? Thanks for the help!

Are you only having the issue when trying to connect through My FTP Places? I'm not familiar with how ixwebhosting is set up, but if you're trying to access things through the manage.ixwebhosting.com url you probably won't be going through My FTP Places, but rather through your browser alone.

When you try to set up the connection through My FTP Places you would mostl likely just be using your domain name where it asks for hostname or the ip address of your site. It's possible ixwebhosting needs you to use a slightly different hostname, but if they do they should tell you after you log in to the manage.ixwebhosting.com through the browser alone.

Hope that helps, but I'll be happy to try to help more if it didn't.

Thanks for the reply, vangogh. I checked with IXwebhosting and noted that they suggested that I get a FTP program like the one that I have. I scratched my head and tried logging in again...lo and behold, but it worked. I think that I know what the problem was: I understood my username to be my email address, but it was only the part before the ampersand.

Now, however, I get a message saying, basically, that my site has been created and can be accessed at 71.18.72.167. It further says that after a few more things happen that appear to be out of my control, the site will be available at the .com address. Well, as you may have guessed, I can't access anything at 71.18.72.167. I suppose that I'll wait a few more days to see if it's up at the .com address and if not, hmm, I don't know what I'll do. It's quite frustrating that all of this is so difficult for me.

Glad you got part of the problem sorted out Shelton. Don't get too frustrated though. I remember the first few times I was trying to FTP to a site and never getting it to work. I was usually doing something just like you were doing with using the wrong username or at times I did use the wrong hostname.

Once you get it right once or twice though it's going to become second nature. Just don't think it's you. It's happened to most of us.
