ebay have added google checkout to thier list of banned payment methods

This is quite a cowardly approach eBay (paypal) have taken to the threat of competition.
I was under the impression that there are laws preventing this kind of thing, Banning competition on the grounds that they are competition..

Either way, It doesn't show paypal as having much confidence in thier own business model.

Google'll probably fire off an antitrust suit soon enough

Also, you're link is dead for me. Readers may want to view the slashdot story: http://yro.slashdot.org/yro/06/07/06/232209.shtml

When I heard about this, I wasn't really surprised. I don't see why eBay is so worked up though, I think it will still be a long time before people start using google checkout. PayPal still owns the market, IMO.

stOx I heard about this earlier this evening. As a matter of fact it was on your blog where I first heard the news. It doesn seem cowardly on the part of eBay/PayPal. It also seems like eBay has determined that Checkout is a pretty good syystem or at least they think it will be and are afraid of the competition.

By the way why haven't you activated the latest blog post feature in your control panel here? You have some good stuff on your blog and I'm sure more people here would visit if they knew what your latest blog post was about.

Thanks Van, Glad someones reading the blog lol.
I would love to have my latest post on here but at the moment, for some reason, blogger only pings weblogs.com..

eBays announcment must have been the best news google got all week.
eBay look like they are performing the monty python "Run away, Run away" sketch.

I agree this move by eBay will end up benefitting Google by keeping Checkout in the news more. Seems like a silly thing for eBay to do.

I know what you mean about the blog. I'm always glad when I find someone reading it it as well. I don't seem to inspire people to comment on it other than spammers so it's hard sometimes to know if people find the info useful. I'll just keep plugging along though.

I thought a couple of people here had worked out the issue with blogger being able to ping here, but maybe not.

I found this from techwench in another thread:

Quote:
No. Blogger doesn't support user-defined, automatic pings.

Your best bet would be to try and find a ping service that will let you add custom ping urls (if they exist), then manually ping through that service after every post you make.
A bit of a pain to have to manually ping each time, but it would probably be a solution. Have you thought about moving the blog to your main site at all. WordPress is really easy to install and set up.

I hadn't thought about looking for a service like that, That would be handy.
Pinging things other than weblogs was something i put in my what blogger needs post, I hope they read it lol.

I'll have a search and see if i can find something, Thanks for the tip.
If not i might think about writing my own script and run it on a cron job.

I just read something funny.
Just before eBay added google checkout to thier list of banned payment methods they changed the name of that policy from "Safe payments" to "Accepted Payments"..
Me thinks they were a bit worried about calling google out as "unsafe".
