Hi I just ran into a pretty good amount of money and I would like to start a website what I had in mind was something similar to Myspace but I do not know the first thing about writing software or web design can some one tell me what I need to do from the legal side down to the technical side any information you could pass me would great

My advice would be don't try to replicate something that has already been done, Especially if you are thinking you can make it a sucess by throwing money at it.
There are thousands of myspace clones and they nearly always fail.

Take some time and think of something fresh and unique.

Well if you read the post I dont want it to be like Myspace when I say like myspace I ment in terms of How big I want to potentially be because Myspace holds alot of content I guesse you call it a community or something

I don't quite know what you are asking people. Are you asking for instructions on how to make a site that's worth 180 million dollars from scratch?

I would say set your sights a bit lower and build knowledge.

Of course, it's possible to reach such success, but as stox said, you must first start with more reachable goals. At present, I don;t have any useful idea, but If you live outside the US, why don't you create a site that would be a hit in your country?

Do it for something you like. Vampirefreaks.com is pretty popular. I look at some of the people on there and get a little scared, but they must be pulling in a bunch of money. Make it geared towards something you like.

Decide if you are looking to come up with something that will be interesting and satisfying or something that will just generate LOTS of money.

Even if you are looking to build up a "community", choosing a niche will be better considering the competition this day. (As the guys here already adviced you).

You also want to research on line about the most successful internet web sites and niches. we all know that if you are looking to make money than you want to check out about Adult, matchmaking ,casino and so.

Another good place to start thinking is about things that you are interested in. You can find out some of the big money makers like suggested above and probably do well. However, you may make money and appreciate it more if it's something you enjoy or are knowledgeable about.

I'd think from your username that you might enjoy the Martial Arts especially around boxing, so there might be a niche to start a website and a community. Beware that if you do start one about Martial Arts, there's always those that want to argue that theirs is better...same with any competitive site.

You may also want to start something that will initially attract local people and then move to a larger scale.

Good luck with your endeavor. Had you thought about investing?

Ain't gonna happen with that attitude.

You can't just decide "I want money first and an idea second." The idea generates the income, not the other way around.

Like others have said, what are you into? What do you know about? What's something unique you could do that no one else can?

Hell, we all want sites the size of MySpace.com . But if it were that easy, we'd all have them and none of us would be *****ing about how little money we have.

I know what it is I want to do but like I said in the post I dont know about techstuff I need basicly a list of what it is I will be needing as far as the site is concerned and Im sure that my idea is gonna sell it's self im sure of it.
