What does it take to generate huge traffic for a site? Assuming I'm talking about a site that is not significantly based on a community(community sites are like MySpace, Slashdot, Craigslist, and Digg, noncommunity sites are like price search engines, alexa, ask.com, orbitz, weather.com, mapquest).

Is it the Product itself? or is it Marketing? Give me a percentage. 80%/20%?

You need to have content that a huge amount of people want to see.
No matter how good the marketing is people don't stick around unless the site delivers something they want.

Realistically, I'd say Marketing 60%, Product 40%

If you have a superb good product but inadequate marketing is done, the traffic will build up in a slower progress

But if you have a good product but right level of marketing is done, the traffic will increase relatively faster.

No amount of marketing is going to make people visit a rubbish site, But a quality site will promote it's self.

it's 99% down to having a good site.

a percentage cant be given for this one i think because without 1 of the ingredients the other fails.

I'm not interested in getting paid to take surveys but I am interested in getting feedback from a few forum owner/admins and could easily put my questions in a survey.

I went to the myfreesurverys.com website provided above and got redirected several times to some other sites trying to get me to do something other than what I'm trying to do. I read some reviews of various survery sites and seems like "mileage may vary" at a minimum, at least in terms of trying to make money off them. That makes me a bit skeptical about paying to have a survey done for me by one of the services.

If you have different experiences or perspectives or suggestions on how I can get a set of questions answered by forum owner and/or admins, I'd welcome your input.
