Why should a local business owner start a website?

It really depends on his/her community and what this website would offer to it. The real question is, would starting a website increase business?

24/7 advertising?

More and more people are turning to the web instead of using things like Yellow pages and local printed directories

A high likelihood they they will attract new business from outside the local area (dependant on the sort of trade they are in)

More and more of the local businesses are going online, 24/7 advertising for the potential client/customer. It gives the potential client/customer a chance to see what the business offers along with the address and store hours.

You are absolutely right, it's just as important as having a storefront......

Even if the business owner is not going to increase his business by the website. Websites are a good way to show existing customers what services you offer and it provides a means of getting information to masses quickly and easily such as sales or specials going on in your business for the upcoming weeks or months. The world is turning more and more to computers and the internet everyday my business requires that we get publications on different aircraft related issues from maintenance to avionics.... some of these are not even available to us anymore in paper copies we have to download the updated adobe files. So to answer your question why should he/she create a site is so that their business does not fall behind their peers and something that is completely obsolete

I would also add :

- It can establish customer loyalty - With online communities and what not

- It is cost efficient for all the advantages of a website

- Better customer service

Every business should have a web-site. I could go on for hours but i won't. I don't care if you have a tire store, nail salon, tatoo shop,pet shop, Whatever.
Hey let me ask you a Question!! Whats the purpose in having a business in the first place???
That's Right To Make money, Offer a service, Get customers. Will you agree with that?
Everybusiness owner should have a web site. Lets say you have a beauty salon,
things are kind of slow, the owner could zip out an email saying hey guess what
we're having a special we will for the next two days give you blah blah.
Hey a tire store could run specials. everyone could.
Heyif they did no more than zip out a email thanking them for their visit to the business. Running a business the right way takes planning and thinking and testing. Don't be affraid of collecting customers email address. Youll be amazed
the amount of dollars a business can make. Hey I gotta stop. Darn I could start a whole new web site jsut doing it for businesses. Ya know Good guy bad guy.
