Hello friends, i would like to know what is your favourite programming language?

My choice is PHP.

Mine too, for web developing at least. I like Java for desktop applications, or C++, depending on my needs. I voted for PHP however.

Another PHPer here. I'll mention that Java is my second favorite though since it's all lonely up there with zero votes.
Also Ruby (on Rails) has totally been flirting with me lately.

PHP - Its the only scripting language I know and learned about (besides client-side javascript of course).

ok, till now "PHP is the best, better than the rest".
But i am really surprised not to see any C lover. My second choice is C. Obviously that's not a scripting language, but C helps me to build my programming logic. Although i a'm not a great C coder.

I use PHP the most, but I actually despise the language.

My favorite has to be Ruby because it's so elegant, but rarely do I get a chance to actually use it.

You even despise it. May I ask why? I think it's quite a good language.

I'll admit 'despise' is an exaggeration

I just resent that the language I am required to use 98% of the time has so many things I find extremely annoying. Big things like every function being in the global namespace, smaller things like inconsistent use of '_' as word separators in function names, inconsistent parameter orders, lacking of the most useful OO features, no UTF support... These things add up.

PHP is a good language for rapid development, but it's just a chore to work with sometimes. Things will be much better by the time PHP6 comes around. But by the time it's released and widely used, I might not even be using it anymore!
