A recent thread ask when members started using the net. This got me thinking, how do others see the future of technology.
I see PCs and Macs being consigned to history and future generations wearing something like a digital hearing aid that comunicates both ways direct with the brain, and has wireless connection to something like the present net. This way everyone will have as much knowledge as anyone else. Do others think this is too fanciful? What else do you see in the future?

The next big thing i see coming is a change in the way we interact with machines.
When you look at how we use a keyboard to interact with a computer it seems to be something that will hold us back, We are pressing buttons to operate a machine capable of doing thousands of calculations a second.

Before that though i see us using a different way to display the information.
Maybe a contact lens that shoots the screen directly into our eye, Though that will make sharing a funny video with the rest of the poeple in the office more difficult, It will make watching porn a lot safer at work.

I would like to see an end to keyboards and 2D square displays,.

If forsee (well, kind of agree with a vision of Arthur C Clake) the computer becoming a central controling system of the home. It will become much more powerful (not surprising given the current growth in CPU power) and be able to present a 'persona' or a digital avatar for us to interact with just like we interact with each other, i.e. speaking and listening and it will be able to display whatever we want it to show us on any screen in the house. It may even be able to project holographic displays in certain locations around the home.

It will be able to parse and understand our instructions so I could easily say, "transfer $500 to my brother's account and let him know when it's been done" and it would just do it.

I think that when out and about we will be using devices similar to the mobiles we have now, but thinner, and able to link to our home systems and provide exactly the same content/services with the limitation that it will be outside the home and only able to respond thru the mobile device.

I forsee a growth in wearable devices like the bluetooth earpieces that you see all over the place now, with maybe an attachable miniscreen on an arm that positions it just in front of one eye.

I also sadly forsee the continued dominance of Microsoft in the OS sector, although I would love to see **nix come to prominence.

I want a holographic 3-d display for either PC/Mac use or for TV.

I'd like to see technology that is more based on having fun than conducting business. Whatever happened to all the talk about virtual reality and the way it would revolutionize the way people play videogames? We're still palying with controllers though. I'm looking forward to the day I can play Super Mario Brothers and actually be Mario!

It's honestly hard to tell what in the world will be the next big thing (stating the obvious, I suppose!) However, if you look at the insane amount of progress made in the last century you gotta wonder will it brick wall or will it only fuel more genius creations?

man has proressed more (technologie wise) in the last 60 years than in 500! or somin like that. Amazing isnt it.

I mean I can remember only a few... well more than a few... when flash and animation was just boosting, it seemed only very big corps could afford flash animation where-as now ANYone can!

wheather thats a good thing or not is a differant thing...

Dan.

All you have to do is plug a monitor HD and keyboard into it.

i supose but still, the specs wouldnt be worth it, it would be a hell of alot cheaper to have a server and a few extention leads lol, that my point. but hey i can see where this might go so lets agree to disagree...
