It is the thought that counts.
It depends on the recepient what the best gift is. Some years my hubby has just bought me a carnation and re-arranged his schedule to spend more time with me. Other years he has bought me a new diamond ring, an anniversary ring and a few other expensive items. The rings meant a lot to me because I wear and see them everyday so I am reminded of the love we share. On the other hand, we are both very busy people so it means a lot to me when he makes the effort to spend more time with me.
Our very first valentines day together we didn't have any money. He put sticky notes up all over the house with reasons why he loved me. To show how much that meant to me....1)We are still together; 2)That was 16 years ago 3)I can still tell you what most of the sticky notes said and where they were placed.

To give a female, a small cheap cuddy stuffed animal and a one hour personally delivered back rub is a sure winner.
For a male, skip the stuffed animal and......... let you figure that one out.

Being each other in valentine days is the best gift. Being happy together and not a material thing that you give to your loveone

I have been wondering the same thing. Im a girl, so for my fiance, this is easy...flowers, candy, jewelry, stuffed animal....anything and I am happy. But what do I get HIM?? I have no idea. All I can think of is some candy.

It's 8 degrees F right now where I'm at - if my hubby bought me a nice thick pair of hunting socks I'd marry him all over again!! One year he bought me a hunting jacket for Valentines Day and it was one of the best gifts he's ever bought me. It's a scentblocker and was on clearance for 5 dollars and change!

I usually get him something that I know he won't buy himself....a book that costs more than he thinks books should, hockey tickets, etc.

My hubby loves hockey too. And yes, I hunt too. I prefer my bow to shotgun season (cuz it's quieter & warmer!) It took me a few years to get my first deer (this past October) because I only get to go hunting when we have someone to stay with the kids at 4 am....not an easy task. It's getting easier though because they are getting older and my son now has his shotgun license; two more years and my daughter will have her's too.

What's your idea of cheap? $20, $30, $40? Why don't you buy some candles, some Chinese and stay in for a romantic dinner? That could easily be done for $20.
I wish my wife believed it was the thought that counts...

Simple ideas can be effective.
The post it notes are good. Put some chocolates on the dash of her car so when she gets in it’s a little surprise. Lots of little things like that.
Get a nice card, use nice writing and make sure the message is something special. Use a nice pen.
Just tell her how much you love her. But don’t just tell her show her by being nice every day.
Unfortunately I learnt the hard way. So my advice to you is and everyone else is never take any one for granted. You really do never know what you have until you wake up day after day and there no longer smiling at you.

I usually spend around £150 ($300) on valentines day, But in London that doesn't get you a lot. The flowers cost about £70, chocs £15 then the rest either on a meal or a necklace or something.
handy Vday tip #1: If you are sending flowers, Have them delivered to her place of work. It brightens up a boring work day, And gives them the chance to gloat to thier workmates who got nothing. They like that kinda thing.
Two years ago i told my girlfriend to pack a bag, I'm going to take her to bognor regis! (a lame seaside resort) but when we got to the station we got on the eurostar to paris.
Girls might say it's not about the money, And in some respects it's not, But they would still prefer you spend a lot. It's not so much "if you love them you don't need to spend money" but more like "if you do love them why don't you spend a lot of money"

I must be a very unusually non-materialistic woman. Our wedding - we made $20 on it. Spent $80, $100 gift from mother/father-in-law (married by a judge with 4 witnesses). My original engagement ring - $10 (yes it's really a diamond, albiet tiny). The diamond I currently wear with my wedding ring that was my 8th anniversary gift $100. Last year's valentines gift - $50. The other 15 valentines gifts probably total up to less than $200 and the other 10 anniversary gifts probably about the same. Honestly - the only time we argue is when we don't get enough time together. It is the little things. Like tonight I'm feeling especially sappy because he had a frozen pizza ready for me for dinner when I got home from work.

The cheapest but the meaningful gift that you can give to your valentine is one lovely hug with few roses.
