This morning on the Interstate, I looked over to my left and there was a
Woman driving,

In a brand new Cadillac doing 65 mph,

With her face up next to her rear view mirror putting on her eyeliner.

I looked away for just a couple seconds!

And when I looked back she was halfway over in my lane,

Still working on that makeup.

As a man, I don't scare easily.

But she scared me so much;

I dropped my electric shaver,

Which knocked the donut out of my other hand.

In all the confusion of trying to straighten out the car,

Using my knees against the steering wheel,

it knocked my cell phone away from my ear,

which fell into the coffee between my legs,

splashed, and burned myself,

ruined the dang phone,

soaked my trousers,

and disconnected a very important call.

Women drivers! Hmpf!

Dave

P.S. It was a joke, please don't send me nasty letters! Hehehehe!

Don't you have any rules in the US about using your cell/mobile phone while driving like we do here in the UK?

Funny Dave.

Dale the laws about driving with cell phones are done locally here. In New York for instance you can't drive and be on your cell even if you're using a hand's free device. Not that it stops people, but that's the law.

Here in Colorado where I currently call home anything goes.

I think it's a little more local than states....I can use my cell with hands free or speaker phone. Personally, I think the wires with the hands free are more dangerous than talking on the phone. My pre-requisites when buying a new cell phone are (in order of importance): reception, speaker phone, built in toys

Kandi maybe it's just New York City then where it's like that. I read an article awhile back which claimed the reason driving skills go down has nothing to do with the hands free or not either. There was just something about being on the phone that caused people to become distracted.

It was interesting too, because it wasn't the conversation itself. Drivers talking to a passenger in the car were fine, but talk to that same person on a phone and their driving skills diminished.

My bumper sticker reads...

HANG UP AND DRIVE!

Sadly, most Cell-Phone Morons can't read, much less understand.

I've read the same thing. I have found it to be true too. I think you put more attention into the mechanics of talking on the phone than having a conversation with someone in the car with you, therefore you have less attention on driving.

The only time I answer the cell when I'm driving is if it's one of my kids or hubby. That's what voicemail is for . They generally know when I'm in the car and don't call unless it's important and time sensative, which is why I have the thing to begin with. But then, I don't like phones in general. My house phone only gets answered if you talk to my answering machine and then it's mostly my daughter's friends that call. My family & friends all have my cell number and know that I don't answer the house phone

If I'm remembering right it had something to do with feeling like you're home and being on the couch with the phone in your hand instead of being in a car and driving.

I usually keep off the phone too while driving. About the only time I use it is to answer when someone who I'm driving to see is calling since I figure it might be about something they want me to pick on on the way. Otherwise I let voice mail take the call and listen to the message when I have a chance.
