0Hi Guys,

Ive never seen a post like this so i would like to start it off,

My site has been up and running for about 18 Mt's, like most site it took awhile to kick off but know its starting to earn us money, but what i would like to know is what would be a good yearly return?

As i said the first 12 Mt's was building the site but for this coming year on a forecast base should be turnover £90-£100K and profit around £15k plus, i get around 900-1000 unique visitors a day and we are expanding our range slowly, we sell anything from two to ten products a day and i would say most times its on the average of four, we have no PPC campaigns running and 95% of them comes from Google, we do have a yearly subscription to the msn and yahoo directory and pay monthly to scan alert for security reasons other than that we pay for the host and domain and ssl.

So would you say i'm doing OK for my first proper year of trading or am i below par?

Just to clear a small point up, my site has loads of free advice pages, audio stories and other tools, so people looking for products from the 900-1000 hits we get is only about 50-60% of them.

Sorry if this sounds nosey but i'm just interesting if this is a good start or am i just wasting my time : ) i know differant markets as different mark up prices and and turnovers and some of you pay staff but in the end of the day its all down to profits £ $....

Look forward to a few replies.

Regards

Dave

I'd say for the 1st year, you're not doing as bad as some. 15k extra in your 1st year is better then 0.00 and most Internet companies do not see a large boom until sometime has passed. Simply because The Internet boom has come and past.

Overall I'd say your numbers are fair.

Thank you for your reply,

I'm interested in you comment about "Simply because The Internet boom has come and past" i think i agree to some of it but not all, i know that the time of selling sites and domains for millions as come and gone but you still get the odd one, but for business selling products to the public is just starting, the reason i say this is we are becoming a nation that shops via the Internet more and more and the figures are growing yearly and the most people i know over the age of 40+ do not trust computers and credit cards, every child i know and young adult is using computers and i think this is a new age for online shopping and if you have a top position site in the likes of Google in the next ten years this should be a gold mine, the big boys have clocked on to this and that's why they are spending Hundreds of thousands a year to get an high listed or PPC campaign, but i also beleave it will become harder for us small business to keep up with the big boys and one day the first 5 pages on search engines will belong to only them : (

Thanks again for the reply...

"What should an average site be earning?"

Hmm... what's considered "an average site"? Too vague to answer.

What kind of site is it and who are your target visitors?

I do know of numerous affiliate-based sites that take a long long long time to get going, and your sounds like it's doing far better than most newer sites are doing during the first year and a half.
