Hi
My website is in asp. I am thinking of changing it to php. Will this in anyway affect my pagerank in google and other engines?
Thanks

Assuming you use proper 301 redirects from your old ASP pages to your new PHP pages, then the effect in terms of search engine ranking will be minimized. Also, if you're going to change your site in terms of code and you have decent search engine ranking for certain pages AND people are visiting from those keywords and phrases (that's the real key), don't edit the content of those pages much if at all. Why screw with what works, right?

PageRank is a meaningless indicator, as discussed on here, so don't worry too much about it. It's only one factor. Basically, build your site, make sure it's user friendly, add the appropriate 301s, and away you go.

Google doesn't even care how your html is coded ( unclosed <br> tags anyone? <font color="blink ugly red">? ), let alone what language it might be programmed in.

Adam brought up the one and only effect this change might have: new urls because your pages will start ending with .php instead of .asp. Otherwise, Google couldn't care about the difference. Neither will Yahoo, but they're a has-been.

Curious, though - why would you want to abandon an nice framework like asp?

I've got the same question. ASP, if used correctly, can do some way cool stuff.
