Even the Federal Gov't. placed a ban on this P.O.S.

That's one of those "show bans" that will probably be removed once MS gives them some sort of charity pricing or licensing deal.
They already do it for TechSoup customers. There's no reason they can't step a little to the left and do it here too.

I don't know; I've had it for a week and am removing it from my HD today and re-installing XP ... all computer outlets are forcing people to get Vista with a new system (which I bought a week ago) and most software isn't compatible with Vista yet.
MicroStoopid rides again...

Don't you love how reporters make headlines like the "federal government bans...". It makes it appear really bad, when it's just standard policy of every large company NOT to make large software changes immediately upon release due to several factors such as cost.
Even the link above says:

It is not unusual that agencies aren't rushing to install major software updates. Large organizations in particular tend to do a lot of testing before upgrading

I've had Vista for a month now on my laptop, but I'm not rushing to change it due to compatability problems. It's new, it takes time to learn, it requires change. So those things can be taken as good or bad. So far, I won't say that it's bad even though the first week I almost changed my laptop to XP Pro.
I'll learn it on this laptop and see what happens.
BTW, there are lots of computers out there on the shelf that now have Vista. Some of them have warrantes that are voided if the OS is changed. Go figure!

Dude, a lot of software isn't even compatible with XP64 yet. I don't blame MS necessarily for that...I blame manufacturers who aren't on the ball.
Having said that, I'm in no rush to get Vista (if at all). The only reason I got XP64 is to take advantage of my dual core processor, and one of the first things I did with it is to configure it to use the classic Windows interfact and take out all the bells and whistles related to graphics (thereby devoting more resource to the geeky stuff I do). Why would I upgrade to Vista just so that I'd have to waste more time removing Vista's stuff?

I've heard tonnes of problems including those related to DRM and DRM h/w.
Vista is truly P.O.S!! Glad to be on Linux here

I re-loaded XP and removed Vista -- I'm happier now, as all of my software is working again; it's gonna take Vista and the software manufacturers 2 - 3 years to iron out compatability issues ... and that's when Billy-Bob will come out with yet another "new" OS.

I don't think it'll be that soon. The last round took 5 years. I'd say this one will take another 5 UNLESS something comes out of the woodwork to really compete (and history teaches us that it's highly unlikely to see that occur).

Me neither, in a rush. I won't upgrade my other PCs to Vista. I've got Vista on my laptop because that's what my Hunni got me and that's what came on the laptop. I don't use it for most of my work, just internet access. I won't call Vista bad, but I'm not saying it's the best thing since Frosted Flakes! LoL!

Definite agreement there! It will be awhile. You think more people will go Linux?

I'm already hearing that numerous people and companies are seriously considering Linux, of which I can't blame them -- just read an article this morning where, it appears that in the near future, MS won't be selling anymore software in a shrink-wrapped box ... they're stepping into the future of OpenSource and On-Demand software.
The things that make you go hmmmmmmm...

There's no future in on-demand internet apps as long as computers are fast and network connections are slow.
( Obviously "no future" is an exaggeration. )

Do I think more people will go to Linux? As it stands now, no. There's nothing that really appeals to the masses.
If they ever get over that hurdle, maybe.

It's catch 22 for Linux. If they want to appeal to windows users it has to become more like windows, And it's the fact that it isn't like windows that makes it so good.
