Hi I am going from a structured hourly job to running an online website and another business out of the house. I am having a little trouble finding a schedule that fits. Has anyone else been through this?
Thanks

It is hard at the start, but I look at it this way. If you know what you want to do, just set aside enough time each day for each website or project, things may seem boring but you get stuff done!

I think these things sort themselves out with time. You'll get a sense for how long different tasks take you, how much you can stand before needing a break, and so on.
Take enough breaks to not get burnt out, and eat well. Not eating lowers your blood sugar, making you feel tired, uninspired, and a little agitated.

I would schedule a daily work out to, although the computer may be good for the brain, its not to good for the body
I do Pilate's and a ab work out nearly every day, and that keeps my spirits up. Sunshine is a must to!

All good comments so far, here's my 2p's worth...
1. Set some routines for youself, things to do on a daily/weekly/monthly basis. When I first start the days work the first thing I do is check my email and deal with as necessary.
2. Keep a diary for meetings, events and things to do
3. Concentrate on one specific task a day, eg Tuesday is for Marketing, Thursday is for site updates (for the weekend).
4. Take regular breaks!

Thanks, I think the hardest part is going from 8 to 9 hours to 12 to 15 hours a day. I do need a routine there is always things to do you know? Plus I need to balance in family time.

I don't understand why The Seo Kit gave me negative talkupation for the post above, saying that his advice is good?

I guess I owe TheSeoKit an apology. I saw the grayish purple TP, and unlike the green ones, I thought it meant a negative vote. ( See attached, and if anyone can explain how this works, I'd love to learn. ) And in turn, I thought that must mean confusion, since I was agreeing with his advice, saying it was a lot better than any of us would expect, and should definitely be followed.
In fact I think it's the best advice that's been given in this thread.

Well, the guy has enough of an uphill battle to earn respect around here, the least I could do is make it clear to anyone else who might read this, that I was wrong about what I said. It's the only fair thing to do. And I totally agree, this forum has a great community, that's why I like it here so much.
Sorry to pull your thread off in a random direction, though. This all started on the idea that spending so much time in front of the computer can be bad for you, physically, and can lead to feeling burned out, so doing things like getting up and walking, even for just ten minutes, being in the sunlight, eating well, and getting a bit of exercise, whether you have a bike, gym membership, weights, pilates, or whatever, is one of the best things you can do for a home based business.
It sounds counter productive, like it will take you away from your work and cause distractions, but it gives your mind a chance to rest, gives your body the stimulation it needs from our long history as a species being trapped in our genes, and it clears your head. I find that I'm actually able to concentrate better after I do some push ups and sit ups. This kind of thing gives focus, makes the time you spend in front of the PC more productive.

From my point of view it would be best to take it slow, get a little ryhtme into your work before you do everything you really need to do!
A someone that has a hectic timeschedule also, trust me, take it slow and build it up to you have schedule that fits you..
I still have a problem with this now and then, the one moment you have nothing to do and you for example sleep in till noon, and the other week your up from nine till midnight (freelancing isn't all what ist cracked up to be)
but oke some more tips:
1. take it slow, find out what takes lots of your time and what doesn't
2. fix that in to a schedule and see how it works
3. relax, dont be a workaholic and keep going untill you cant go no more! you are working from home now, relax a little, and do this mostly when you think you just cant take it anymore.
4. spread it out, if something doesnt get done one day, just postpone it to the next, as time goes by you'll find little spaces in your schedule wich you can use to finish the work you postponed

I found the hardest thing to accept is that I can't always accomplish everything that I want to as quickly as I want to. Sometimes a project has to wait a day or two so that I'm not neglecting my hubby or kids or my health.
