Hey guys and gals.

I was thinking about starting a new website that serves as a community, resource, and blog for female web designers and developers. I thought that having a feminine place would give us the opportunity to have a place to talk shop and do it glamourously, and also give people looking for web pros with a femenine touch one central place where they know they can find severl of us to choose from. But I wanted to see opinions on this idea before i get too far into it.

Here's my name and logo idea:

(Remember, you're not voting on the logo, but on my new site idea.

Might work, Though i doubt it. Excluding half of the entire planet from a website is usually not a very good idea unless there is a good reason for it.

I wouldn't join a webmaster forum exclusively for men. Why? because i have had a lot of help and answers from women over the years which i wouldn't have got if i was on a community only for men. I'm assuming most women would think the same.

If it's overall webmastering it won't work. Maybe just for web design itself, but even then, unless the website created is targetted for women, then it would be best for both genders to review it.

Like if it's a review for a blog targetted for women, you'd get more accurate reviews from women, but if it was a blog targetted for both genders, you'd need some male input as well.

Have you ever seen 2 women in the kitchen at the same time, trying to cook?

That's probably what you'd end up with -- a bunch of women fighting for position ... I agree that it's not a good idea.

There have been, and still are, communities that are primarily for and by women in web and graphics design. I haven't looked any of them up in while, though I would think some of them are still active.

Personally, I don't think it's a bad idea, as long as it doesn't ban men. Women do tend to have a different approach to design, we like curves where men prefer squares and hard edges; we like pastels and generally more color, whereas men tend to stick more to the neutrals. There are a number of differences and having a place to FIND a female designer might be helpful for certain markets.

See, that was one of my ideas, to make it a marketplace. Like sitepoint for women.

I dunno, maybe the guys are right though.

Arrrggghhh LadyDi -- ya know we're right, and my dog just barked.

Tammy - who knows if it will work or not? Nothing like the "old college try" - you might end up with a winner.

lol

There are hundreds, maybe thousands of websites made just for women to come and get womanly advice, and chat with other women. Why not one that highlights the web professions? Men wouldn't be excluded anyways. It would provide tips and resources to all web pros.

I am considering going on with my "try and see.. but I'd love to enlist some help, ideas, advice. Too bad there aren't any popular female web developer communities out there.
