The Economist uses PHP. Digital Photography Review uses ASP. Microsoft uses a mixture of ASP/ASPx. Google is really big on AJAX, in fact, it's the only way they'll let you use their search in your web site. But then that isn't really a server technology ... it's mostly client side but sort of a dance between the two.
They're all pretty widely used. Each has its strengths and weaknesses, but at the end of the day, the question is more about the programmer than the language.
