It seems like everyone has a cell phone today; from 8 to 80, the masses are using them.

Here's a suggestion for your cell phone. And this is by no means new, nor original from me, but something that came out of rescue training.

Add an entry into your phone under the name ICE, all caps. That stands for "In Case of Emergency". The telephone number listed with that name should be the one that you want called in case you're hurt and in an emergency. If you happen to be in some kind of accident, the rescuers, EMTs, or other emergency personnel can look on your cell phone for that number and see who they should contact.

It's a good thought and practice to do. Consider it, and pass it to those you care about.

I HATE cellphones -- an IDIOT woman, trying to dial a number, rear-ended me over 2 years ago at over 60mph ... she laid over 70 feet of skidmarks before impact, and she had 2 little kids in the backseat.

Her IGNORANCE and the inability of CONCENTRATING on her driving, destroyed my Cadillac; put me in Physical Therapy for almost a year; and I'm now certified as Handicapped ... I wish the Federal Gov't. would place a nationwide ban on cellphones, unless they're "HANDS-FREE" ... too many people can't drive and talk at the same time, as I see so many of them doing STUPID acts while driving.

I agree with you, read and heard a lot of cases started out with CPs, my friend hurt fighting a cellphone snatcher.

I DEFINITELY agree. It's funny, so many people say "no, forcing us to get off our cellphones while driving infringes on our rights". But what is it that everyone says during an almost accident with someone who was on their cell phone? "Get off the phone, @$$4013!!"

P.S. ICE - I have a sticker for that on my phone. The ICE number is a great idea.

From being a Captain of a Rescue Squad, the statistics presented to us were that a vast majority of car accidents were caused by the driver reaching for something. It used to be that the leading thing they were reaching for was cigarettes, or lighting them. Now, usage of cell phones has far surpassed that and I think many governments are passing laws about using them while driving.

That doesn't surprise me at all actually. I heard a statistic (President Palmer?) that one in eight people get in an accident in their lifetime. I'm not afraid to admit that the two times I've been in a close call, I was either reaching for the radio dial (first time) or reaching for a pen (second time).

Both times, though, the other person was on a 4()<i<!|\|# cellphone.

New York has a "five hour class" that you need to take to get your learner's permit. They should mention that in those kinds of classes.
