Holy poop!

Ironically, I'm going to be doing Windows development and some SQL. This is ironic because, as good as I am with these things, their business model and my foremost passion is photography. Still, I've got my foot in the door, the the director of IT was talking about how the creative wing ( as opposed to the PJ side ) would be interested in my stuff.

I brought a couple dozen photo prints to the interview; everybody cut the tech questions short when it was clear I'm not BSing to make time to look at the purdy pichas. The director said it's pretty rare for them to interview a photographer for a tech position, and was a lot more interested than I would have expected in the photos.

Congrats Forrest. And thanks for more pics. Pretty cool to find a job that combines your most marketable skills with what you have a passion for doing. It should be a fun place to work and a great opportunity to move toward the creative side of things.

Um ... maybe we should shoot some PMs back and forth about this. After high school I spent a year doing volunteer work in an elementary school in a bad part of town, with no funding where children were falling between the cracks; I taught a few kids to read. I'm open to using skills I've got to make a positive difference.

Your photographer has talent, though. I don't want to hotlink someone else's images, but this one http://www.tropicjoes.com/images/gall/mtv_06_large.jpg is fantastic! I really like the bird images, too, although I wish the guy controlled noise better, and the close-ups of butterflies are superb. A lot of them that are great, even without the social goals. I submitted your page to StumbleUpon with a positive vote.
