Hey folks, I'm just curious about this. How long does it take you do a website (including brainstoming to designing and coding)?
Let say, it's a 5 or 6 pages website, each page has it own information with articles, images..etc.
I did the website for my company within 10days: 6 pages, 3 pages are all article, 1 page for realty listing, 1 page for directory, and the rest for something else. Recently, I did a mortgage website with online application form, news, calculators within 9 days and my boss said I was too slow T_T.
She said she has other employee that can do a fully developed website within 1 or 2 days. And of course, i doubt that guy can do all of those things without using templates and written scripts.
So, how about you guys?

It just depends on the project and how complicated it is. However, I do NOT think that 9 days for the website with the form, calculator, etc you made is too slow.

If you already have templates, content, etc. - a couple of days is very feasible for a simple site. After you have created plenty of sites, you can recycle parts of them - the code, templates, etc. - so it greatly speeds up your implementation time.

9-10 days does not seem too long at all! I know it depends on your level of expertise but that really doesn't sound long :-) It depends on the site and what you are trying to do.

It really depends on the type of site, and how much content there is.
I'm not really sure how long it took to make my site, since it's still growing, and things are still being added and whatnot.
But I usually already have most of my content, so making a new layout usually takes me several hours/a day.
If I'm starting a new site then.. usually 1-2 days to get design and basic information, then I open it and just add more stuff over time.
However, my sites are usually pretty simple, so....

I'm going to agree with everyone else. It doesn't sound like you took an unreasonable amount of time.
The requirements go into how long a site takes to create as does your own experience. It's only natural you'll get faster in time, but still the time you took seems reasonable.
The quality of your work also determines the time. I could have a website for you in a few minutes if you want. It won't be any good, but it can be done.

There's a key part of this scenario that is missing or hasn't yet been discussed: can the employee do the site in 1 or 2 days and provide a site of at least the same level of quality as the one you did?
Now, I've done a similar site in a day before but to be totally fair, I already had the layout given to me so all I had to do was code it.

I beta tested some software a very long time ago in a land far away, okay, okay....anyway, this software had a couple of hundred templates, lots of graphics and art, etc., etc. and you could make a 4 to 8 page website in an hour once you got used to the navigation. No, you didn't have to do any coding, and with a little imagination, you could rearrange stuff and make it look totally unique. The average tester in this group could usually complete a small site, if given all the info and content in 2 to 4 hours.
So, if you're not handcoding, just about anything is possible.
But Adam and van hit the key word, quality! It doesn't matter if you can turn out huge websites in hours if they are of poor quality.
And gotta' agree that what you put in the 9 day project does NOT seem to slow.

Thanks, I feel alot better now. I have just finished another website for kid. This time, it took me just 4 days: 2 days for the layout + idea, 2 days for coding and fixing errors.
I like to use my own ideas and apply them to my websites. Using template is my last option.
But as you guys said, it's not about the speed but the quality of the website, and experience.
Anyway, what's the name of the software you mentioned, Dave? I want to try it too.

The way I see it (and based on my experience too), a client contributes to your coding or designing speed. There are some clients who wants to add this, remove that, replace this, even after they have approved your mock up.

I managed to do a site with a shopping cart etc in a week... but it did involve a hell of a lot of coffee and a bit of recycling of the basics.

Well it depends on the website you are doing, depends in all modules of your site. Especially when there is an interaction between the users and the site itself.
If there's no interaction. An hour or two will do.
