I never had a paypal acct, so that's out. I've heard too many horror stories from a friend who bought dead laptops, fixed them up, resold them, and got burned a few times. I don't know why he didn't stop at one, but that's another story.
Anyway, free web hosting usually sucks, but it's better than no web hosting. If people are willing to offer you a free hosting account, and not making small text about "but you can't use any bandwidth" I would happily accept that and move on to the next stage. But if that's really off the table for some reason, have you considered all the different graphic hosting sites? They have those for web designers, 3D animators, and pretty much everything else you can think of. People will be glad to host and display your files for you, and you might even be able to use those off-site with your free hosting.
It's really hard to attract traffic - my blog gets maybe 30 readers a day. Unless your files are giant and people are going to download all of them on every visit, you probably don't need to worry about going over the limit for a while. And at that point you'd have to pay for more expensive hosting anyway.
