I think most content on most web sites is text. And that's how the search engines judge web sites. Therefore, it stands to reason that being able to write or at least recognize good prose is an important skill for anyone with a web site.
Mark Twain was an editor for a newspaper, and learned to write well by reading so much lousy garbage. Through osmosis. So, maybe if we all post something that really catches our attention, everyone who reads this thread will be inspired by the drama that can be created with one word following the next - and then take that inspiration and write some great content for their sites. That helps the people who own the site, but it helps everyone who reads it, too, and brings the overall quality of the web up just a little bit.
I'll go first, and I'm not going to say where this comes from, cause if you don't know, I'm gonna hit you over the knuckles with a ruler! Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter - tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther … and one fine morning -
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

No way I can pick a favorite. But heres something brilliant of John Keats off the top of my head
Then on the shore of the wide world
I stand alone and think
'til love and fame to nothingness
do sink - Keats

Funny you picked Mark Twain, because my favorite all-time quote is a Mark Twain quote:
Be good, and you will be lonesome.

My favorite quote...
...if I give all my belongings to feed others, and if I hand over my body, that I may boast, but do not have love, I am not profited at all.
Love is long-suffering and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, does not get puffed up, does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury. It does not rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails.

Why, have you never noticed that opinion without
knowledge is always a shabby sort of thing?
At the best it is blind. One who holds a true
belief without intelligence is just like a blind
man who happens to take the right road,
isn’t he? - Plato speaking as Socrates in Republic

I see skies of blue
and clouds of white
The bright blessed day,
the dark sacred night
And I think to myself:
what a wonderful world.

...you've been through all of F. Scott Fitzgerald's books
it is very well known
Because something's happening here
and you don't know what it is
Do you Mister Jones
That would be from my favorite poet/musician.
From my favorite author:
Once I was young and had so much more orientation and could talk with nervous intelligence about everything and with clarity and without as much literary preambling as this; in other words this is the story of an unself-confident man, at the same time of an egomaniac, naturally, facetious won't do--just to start at the beginning and let the truth seep out, that's what I'll do--.
