The navigation and design are both horrible. There's no one here who couldn't do a better job. And despite these problems, the server has been down a lot because of too much traffic.
It's amazing, breath taking, haunting. It's a lady with a motorcycle, a camera, more courage than most people, and the ability to tell a story. She rides all through the abandoned towns and cities around the reactor meltdown 21 years ago.
Kid of Speed's Ghost Town - Chernobyl
A photography forum I used to be more active in had a "hot thread" where someone posted this, and people couldn't stop praising it. I send the link to everyone I know, and there's no one who didn't love reading and seeing the story. The site went down after a few months. Someone emailed me that it's back up, so, again, I'm compelled to share this great "discovery."
I was 8 or 9 years old when Chernobyl melted down. I didn't really understand what was going on, but I knew it was very important. From the way sober adults were scared in a distant kind of way was unusual ... the event left an impression. It also fell out of the public's memory, so this narrative and photography is fascinating. A little disturbing in the empty ghost town sort of way.
I thought about putting this in the SEO forum, because it shows how well a site can do on unique and compelling content alone ... PR 6 for those who think the number means anything. But the site is a "page turner," and it's worth seeing in general. I hope other people enjoy the site as much as I did.
Just keep clicking the "next page" link.
