Anyone know much about filtering messages? I've got a friend who emails me about three article summaries from the NY Times every other day. I've talked to the person several times, and they just don't understand. I've told them it's spam, that I don't read it, I don't want to see it, I delete it on sight, and all it does is clutter my inbox. And yet the messages continue.

Now it's a good friend so I'm not going to just spamlist all emails from this person. Just the ones that aren't personal, as in written to me. I can't be the first person who's wanted to set this up, but been too dumb to figure out how?

And for the record, I do read the news every day. It's not that I'm trying to be ignorant, I just don't really like the New York Times all that much.

Guess I should be more specific. Does anyone know how to use the or operator here? I get less results when I expect more.

I've never used gmail. I don't like that it searches the content of my messages to find matching sidebar ads. But everyone else probably does now anyway. Oh well.

Uh, you do understand it's computer software and not an actual human being that does that, right? Meaning there's no privacy implications, no one gossiping about you, none of that.

Hotmail, Yahoo, Outlook - or more accurately Microsoft Exchange Server - all do exactly the same thing, read the content of your messages, to block spam. I've never understood why people get so bent out of shape at Google over this? When the Bush Administration wanted all of everybody's search records, Google was the only one to say "no way Jose." For that alone, they've got a stronger proven track record than any other search engine.

I use gmail all the time. Besides my work email, it's what I use. You can even set up Gmail with a domain.

Have you tried setting up a filter for "Has the words" containing "New York Times" or "N.Y. Times"? If you experiment with it and do test searches, you can filter out the messages.

For email, you just have to modify your domain's MX records. Most hosting providers allow you to change them CPanel.
http://www.google.com/a/help/intl/en...step_four.html

You not only get Gmail but Google Docs, Calendar, start page, etc.

I set up 2 domains with it

Thanks much, joder!! Sincerely appreciate the links and am definitely going to check this out. I like my hosts email just fine, but like to use a different one for newsletters and such; this sounds like a great option.
