I suggest you don't use the word "below". You're kind of implying that users must click the ads.

Last I read it was, adsense code is not supposed to be modified.

After beeing online for one week, www.online-email-marketing.info made me
$13.02 by adsense so far.
Don't think this is a bad start at all!
Unfortunately I can't disclose CTR, but I think I can share visitors and pageviews measured by StatCounter:
I got a total of 223 visits, and 381 pageviews.
So this would mean that 1 visit to the site is worth 13,02/223 = $0,0584
Not a value based on which I can start advertising the site..
So next steps are adding content, adding backlinks and keep posting comments on blogs and fora with email marketing in the sign or as my name.
after one more week I think I;ll have enough data to change the layout of the ads to see what happens and to see what works best..

ok time for another update;
Didn't do much (well.. hardly anything) for the email marketing site last week.
But after 2 weeks and 300 visitors I think it's time for a change, so today I changed the title color to blend in more instead of using the standard blue color.
Using the blue link color is recommended very often, and I just want to check this myself..
So when making a change I should get the data sorted out in order to make good comparisons.
These are the figures for last month:
note that the visitors and pageviews are coming from StatCounter.
and here just a reminder what the page looked like during this period:

so, 200 visits later and only 1 click I think it's save to assume that the blue link color worked better than the black (text color) one.
I now removed the link unit and changed the link color to red. .let's see what happens..

Portal. This has been great to watch. It has given me some ideas I can use on my own sites.
Would you mind sharing more details about your link building campaigns? Maybe even what sites you are submitting too?
Thanks!

1 thing I tried out yesterday is www.stumbleupon.com
it did give me some traffic but no clicks, so Im not so happy with that one.
As for more link building, I really have to start working on that ..didn't do much yet. I probably will work on the site this friday (ive got a day off )
I will keep posting updates in this thread

Thanks for posting that. Looks great.
So, are you going to post to everyone single one of those or just the free links?

the list on the url I posted is a list of free directories. It's not 100% accurate, but close enough.
So whenever I feel like it I submit to a part of that list (sigh)

This time at the top of the page in a different color. Let's see if people look at this as the navigation and click.....

I don't want to be a boring bastard, but you, and many others, make other parts of the site look like the ads and vice versa, sometimes google are happy with it but sometimes they think it's tricking the users to click the ads and you risk being banned. Have you asked google if this ad integration is ok? Talking about the red links and ads.

SEO Portal,
That Adlink on top is so inviting! I almost clicked on it.
An excellent study - please continue!
Can you make the page synopsis headers clickable? i.e. " Email Marketing Glossary" and such parts?

I don't think you are boring bastard. I do think you are contradictory, unless you only run a web site for fun and pleasure (but then why here at "earners forum"?).
Going with the premise that you are trying to make some sort of a money with your site, I think SEO Portal is doing something called " usability study". This is a valid field of study, and I doubt Google has a problem with. They, themselves publish such studies - for example heat maps. Should the site be banned from Adsense, SEO Portal can continue with YPN...
[rant]I am so exhausted with warnings about how something is "legal" or "illegal" by Google, or that almost everything has to be run by and approved by Google. Google is but one company, no matter how large they are. There are other venues to generate money besides Adsense. Should we be putting all our eggs in one basket on our web-sites, when it comes to income generation? Expand the resources, and stop cowering in the corner when Google flairs her nostrils...[/rant]
No disrespect toward you Juicify...

Thanks for your excellent post Libertate..
This is indeed a usability/visitor behaviour study.
I'm doing this basically for 2 reasons;
1. show people how you could conduct such a study (or how you should be optimizing constantly) by showing how you should be measuring every change, interpreting the data, deciding on new actions etc. etc.
2. Learn from the results; what works best and what doesn't.
I'd like to point out that it varies from site to site what works and what doesn't. So you should always look at the type of site, the visitors etc. etc.
Inside AdSense posted a case study where blending in didn't work as well as a 'screaming' ad..

This a very cool experiment.
I looked at your code and noticed quite a few AdSense blocks. I think you are limited to using 3 ad or link blocks + 1 Search box per page by Google TOS.
Keep us updated.
thanks,
x
