You know, I got lucky on one of my websites once. I was listed #1 for a somewhat hot keyword on MSN over the course of a weekend. Over that weekend I earned about $150. Too bad I couldn't keep it up, right?

Anyway, if you're looking for that kind of money each and every day, here's a generalization of my numbers over that weekend (this is just voer the course of that weekend, not the rest of the month):

Total unique visitors: 4000
Page impressions: over 5000
Ad impressions: over 5000
Clicks: over 600
Earnings: just over $128

The ads were mostly (if not entierly) eBay ads, so the CPC was really low. For a higher paying keyword, you could probably do MUCH better.

Anyway, that's just so you guys who are complaining about low earnings with PPC advertising know what type of numbers everyone is talking about when they say you can make serious cash with PPC.

Thankfully, I wasn't using adsense at the time, so I can release this info :P

If your concern is only making $3.00, then your concern isn't a decision between adsense and YPN.

Your concern needs to be how to get more traffic, and how you can get a better CTR in you are alrady getting good traffic.

1)The fact that you only get 20 clicks a day tells me you either don't have any real traffic to speak of yet, you aren't blending your ads, or you are using the standard banner size ads instead of the squares. If it's a lack of traffic, youu need to make getting more traffic a PRIORITY.

2) Do you have some link exchanges? If you don't have any backlinks, that should be your first priority. Get some PR showing, then it will be easier to get even more people to link to your pages.

3)Write more articles and work on SEO so you get more traffic and a broader variety of ads. I don't know how many articles you have, but if you are making $2-3/day on a few articles, think what 50 pages would make you. Or a 100. Or a 1000. And the more articles you have, the more chances you have to rank well in the search engines ON SOMETHING, at least high enough for someone to find your site.

4) Find some keywords that fit your site that pay more, if you aren't happy with what you're getting per click, and write some articles on those subjects. But it sounds like your payout is about average for keywords that aren't in a highly competitive niche.

5)Ban ONLY ads that aren't relevant to the main theme of your site or that directly compete with something you're selling. You're already getting the highest paying ads, so if they are relevant, you don't want to ban them. But if no one is likely to click on the ones you have, then ban them so you can get something more relevant. For example, I have a site on Apache Indians and I was getting ads for Apache servers, so I banned them because people looking for indians aren't likely to be interested in servers.

6)If you don't have the Advertise on This Site option turned on, turning it on could possibly raise the amount you get per click. When that option is on, advertisers can bid on placement on your site, but they will only get it if they bid more than your highest advertiser is already paying without joining the auction, so it can't hurt you. Unless, of course, you are trying to sell on-site advertising yourself.

7)How much you get paid per click is figured in part on how well your ads perform. Ads above the fold will get about 80-90% of your clickthru, so you may want to remove ads lower on the page to see if that raises your eCPM. You will lose the few clicks you were getting on the lower ads, but you will be paid more for the clicks on the higher ad that is performing well because your overall eCPM will be higher. In the long run, this will usually make you more money. It has the added advantage of looking less spammy to your readers.

8) Use the new google comment tags to mark the keyword phrases on that page that you want the ads to be related to and you will get more relevant ads your readers will click more.

Some of my topics get higher rates than others, so I try to keep an eye on the "good payers" and do more of those -- but quantity (traffic) is the real key. Someone posted a link to a report our site on fark.com and I got 22,000 visits to that page in one day, very low click through rate (less than 2%) and low CPC, but still -- $33, and who knows, maybe some new subscribers.

I've seen my payouts go up and down like crazy. I attribute it to what the advertiser is paying for the clicks at the moment. For the same amount of clicks the income could be 300% different on different days.

I'm sort of in the same boat. I get usually less than .01 cent per click.

I admit adsense doesn't pay so much. Maybe in the future, Google will pay more to there publishers when they get competition from Msn Adcenter and YPN, when its out of beta.

I normally get about .20 / click, normally between .10 and .40, but I have seen $2.00 a click, but of course it all depends on what the ad / subject / niche is.

What niche is yours Matthew?, if you don't mind me asking

Never keep doing something if you think doing something else can make you more money; try out the other ad networks and see how they compare.

Sound advice indeed. But some of us don't have all the time to fool around with channels to monitor the revenue. I wish I had more time.

Spill the beans. How do you pick niches that pay 50 cents? Do you use advice from NicheGeek.Com or similar services? What niches are you in?

I remember back to last year around this time, the mesothilioma websites were generating almost $50 a click.

Thanks for all the replies. Just to update everyone. I made the switch to Yahoo for 3 days and my earnings dropped to less than $1/day. SO I switched back to Google.

As for traffic, I run 6 sites that make me atleast 10 cents a day and here are traffic details

Site1 - 180/day
Site2 - 150/day
Site3 - 100/day
Site4 - 80/day
Site5 - 60/day
Site6 - 50/day

So as you can see I hardly get 500+ uniques a day. You can see my sites in my blog.

I added 728x15 text link ads on a few of my sites and have noticed an increase in earnings. I have passed $4/day 3 days in a row now, and looking like 4 days in a row by the end of today.

Traffic is probably my problem. I just don't think my sites are interesting enough to get 1000s of uniques a day
