1)The fact that you only get 20 clicks a day tells me you either don't have any real traffic to speak of yet, you aren't blending your ads, or you are using the standard banner size ads instead of the squares. If it's a lack of traffic, youu need to make getting more traffic a PRIORITY.
2) Do you have some link exchanges? If you don't have any backlinks, that should be your first priority. Get some PR showing, then it will be easier to get even more people to link to your pages.
3)Write more articles and work on SEO so you get more traffic and a broader variety of ads. I don't know how many articles you have, but if you are making $2-3/day on a few articles, think what 50 pages would make you. Or a 100. Or a 1000. And the more articles you have, the more chances you have to rank well in the search engines ON SOMETHING, at least high enough for someone to find your site.
4) Find some keywords that fit your site that pay more, if you aren't happy with what you're getting per click, and write some articles on those subjects. But it sounds like your payout is about average for keywords that aren't in a highly competitive niche.
5)Ban ONLY ads that aren't relevant to the main theme of your site or that directly compete with something you're selling. You're already getting the highest paying ads, so if they are relevant, you don't want to ban them. But if no one is likely to click on the ones you have, then ban them so you can get something more relevant. For example, I have a site on Apache Indians and I was getting ads for Apache servers, so I banned them because people looking for indians aren't likely to be interested in servers.
6)If you don't have the Advertise on This Site option turned on, turning it on could possibly raise the amount you get per click. When that option is on, advertisers can bid on placement on your site, but they will only get it if they bid more than your highest advertiser is already paying without joining the auction, so it can't hurt you. Unless, of course, you are trying to sell on-site advertising yourself.
7)How much you get paid per click is figured in part on how well your ads perform. Ads above the fold will get about 80-90% of your clickthru, so you may want to remove ads lower on the page to see if that raises your eCPM. You will lose the few clicks you were getting on the lower ads, but you will be paid more for the clicks on the higher ad that is performing well because your overall eCPM will be higher. In the long run, this will usually make you more money. It has the added advantage of looking less spammy to your readers.
8) Use the new google comment tags to mark the keyword phrases on that page that you want the ads to be related to and you will get more relevant ads your readers will click more.
