I'm still not sure which add format outperforms. Text or image.

Right now i'm using image/text adds but i find they only ever show text adds. Is there something i can do about this to get image adds show a larger % of the time?

When i was running image only adds, i found the 250X250 block would sometimes display nothing.

Do some format sizes perform better as an image only block? i.e are there more adds for the 728x90 banner than the 250x250 block..

Here's my site, im kind leaning towards all image adds but this might be to overpowering.

Could one of the Gurus on this site please give me their opinion?

Best thing to do is set up channels and experiment with ad layout and placement.
See what works best for you on your site.

In general though, Images pay less but get more clicks.

The only way to know which ad performs better is to set up channels like Matt said and measure for yourself. None of us can tell you which ads perform better on your site.

As far as getting more images to show I don't think you can control that. I think it will depend on the topic of your site and the available ads. But I think it's Google that will decide and I'm not sure you can do anything more than allowing the image ads to show.

Okay, I see.

I thought if the 728X90 format was more popular than the 250x250 format, then advertisers would submit more images for that format.

When i use image only adds, sometimes the image does not appear. Thats the danger i see with an image only setup.

An add that no one can see gets 0 clicks 100% of the time.

I thiink i will just run image / text.

I'm happy with the placement and layout, unsure about the format.

Ive got the channels setup, I guess i'll have to sit back and collect some data over then next month.

But, Matt, testing ADs would not be practical to newbies because they just started the blog and there isn't enough traffic to test ADs. So, I think 300 X 250 Ad performs the best(in my case).

True you do need to collect some data, but the point I was making and I think Matt would agree is you don't know for certain until you have some data.

Start by following the Heat Map and some general advice, but as you collect more data see what is and isn't working. Do more of what is working and less of what isn't and try a few new things. As more data comes in repeat the process.
