Hi all,
I'm working on an adsense website that currently has about 500 discrete pages, each one composed of a few paragraphs of text and a photo about 100k in size. My question is whether I should consider a VPS right off, instead of shared hosting account.
I've contacted several popular shared acct providers, all of whom offer 'unlimited' disk space and bandwidth, about this concern. I was wondering about at what point, in general, I'd have to start worrying about exceeding my use of resources - not disk or bandwidth - before the 404 messages started popping up for my visitors.
I was advised each time, 'when you exceed 25% of the server's resources for 90 seconds.' When I tried to get a rough idea of what the average resources were that were allocated to each their shared accounts, they would not elaborate.
Am I trying to find out something that can't be found out? I understand that resources will vary depending on the actual server, but there must be some sort of ballpark figure. When do people generally make the determination that it's time to move from shared to VPS?
As an example, when I check the specs of a very basic VPS offered by a popular hosting company, I see 8gb storage/192mb ram/200GB bandwidth, for $25/mo. Would a setup like this be less, about the same, more, or way more, than the resources allocated to a premium shared hosting account?
I appreciate any comments, advise, suggestions or anything else from anyone who can shed some light on my confusion!
