These were the requirements and yes, people send in their entries to that email address as also peope from outsite Webmaster-talk can participate:

Entries should be in PNG or JPG format, with source files depending on art program
Dimensions Width x Height = 1024 (max) x 150 pixels
Games, Gaming and/or Game Research themes are obligatory
XeNTaX logo/text should preferably retain the XNTX capitalization
The text “Game Research Forum” must be sufficiently legible

Is it preferable that the header is color coordinated to the rest of the site?

Also, you said the width 1024 is the max, however you didn't specify the height width max. Is this okay?

i really like deepans entries too... although i do believe your font/type is kinda overpowering to the actual banner.
either its too large or..the type needs to be "cleaner" u may have a chance if the
font is more of a sans-serif style rather than serif.
