For this contest I'm looking for some changes to this header on my site www.icdmeister.com/site/

• Some parts of the header I would like to leave unchanged – the left side with the outline for the search box, the right baseline with the company name MeisterMed in C-Type with the vertical reflection, and the background images of various ICD-9 codes (please use some or all of these codes: 250.02, 692.9, 401.9, 599.0, V70.0, 784.0, 786.59, 305.1, 244.9, 172.5, 729.5, 465.9). The codes can be roughly recreated mimicking the current look of randomness. Unfortunately, I was not able to get access to the original PSD file so these elements I like will need to be re-created.

• The part I want changed is the ICDMeister and Online text. It carries over from my original logo (see http://www.meistermed.com/01/icdmeister.htm) that I did myself above 6 years ago with no graphic design aesthetic nor skill. I've been told the ICDMeister (in Tristan font, created with WordArt) looks "immature" and "like an 8th grade science project." Originally I wanted to carry through the original logo's look for the header but I've finally come around and I'm ready to abandon the old logo's look entirely to make a fresh start. The red color scheme is not required.

• The header should be professional & original. The website will be accessed by health professionals over extended periods of time. They will use it to look up diagnosis codes (such as the ones I listed above). These are required by doctor's when submitting claims to insurance to get paid for their work.

• Changing the look of the search button or the Advanced Search orange carrot is optional if it makes the overall header look better. Note that the search button, box, and Advanced Search text are layered over the header image, not part of it.

Thanks in advance. Looking forward to your submissions.

Andrew

(ya' can't really see the white backround surrounding the image, due to the message board's color scheme; but you could if up against a blue backround such as your website)

Also, your Search feature will fit in there just perfectly.

Lashtal,

Thanks for the submission. Here's some feedback.
  • The colors look washed out/faded/dull.
  • Your use of the codes in the background misses the mark. It lacks the randomness in position and size that makes the original interesting.
  • I don't want a white border.
  • I do want the rounded corner rectangle for my search area as part of the image.
  • MeisterMed in white doesn't look good to me.
  • The ICDMeister Online you chose doesn't appeal to me. It's not visually interesting enough. Also it leaves the header unbalanced with a lot of empty space in the center. ICDMeister is one word. All caps is an option or using the case as I do here.
Re: Copyright. As I commissioning this project, I have assumed that I would hold the full and unrestricted copyright to the end product and its component elements. Please let this clarify my expectations to other entrants. If there are copyright restrictions on your submission, please disclose them when you post.

Thanks,

Andrew

I really appreciate your criticism, and i'm going to fold on this competition.

It will be interesting to see who wins though

I was just able to get ahold of the original .psd file with all the layers.
You can download it here: http://www.icdmeister.com/images/icdmeister.psd
I apologize to those who already spent time recreating some of the elements from the original header. For all of you and those still to submit entries, please use the above .psd file to keep all of the components I want to remain unchanged (see original description). Just get rid of the red "ICDMeister" and "Online" and replace it with your new and exciting ideas.

Thanks,

Andrew

Feedback to submissions so far . . .

Lashtal - I hope the bluntness of my critique wasn't offensive. I do appreciate your effort.

Ninjax - It's a little too dark. I like the look of the font you chose OK. Maybe a bit too Terminator. Please incorporate some of your ideas into the .psd file I just linked to.

Steve - I need MeisterMed sort of offset, smaller (it needs to take backstage to ICDMeister Online here). Please incorporate some of your ideas into the .psd file I linked to.

Just to be clear to all - please take, use and adapt the .psd file I posted. No need to recreate most of this header from scratch. Just replace the red stuff with something better. I think some color (red or other) will still work well. Sticking with only blues, turquosies and teals risks feeling monotonous.

Thanks,

A.

It's okay, lol

I just did what I thought doctor's would like. Like the colors they would have already associated with their profession, would identify with more.

I thought that they were the consumer on this one, I deliberately disobeyed your specifications...and deserved the detailed criticism I got. Which I really appreciate.

Looking at that file, I may give it another attempt.

Please do submit something else.

With the original .psd file now, the project becomes a lot less work - all creativity, minimal manual labor (or as us medical folks would call it "scutwork").

I know it may seem dark compared to other entries, but I think it fits really well on your site, look. Please tell me if you still feel the same way, I'll be happy to change it.
