Require someone to complete my attempt at overhauling my site.

The site needs to have a header bar which shows the logo, a nav bar, and a login box. The main content (white section) of the page needs to be two or three column (articles on left, then two or three columns for information boxes).

You can view what I have done so far here:

http://www.flatstats.co.uk/new_index.html

What needs to be done is:

1. Move Nav bar to top right header of page. Make it look like a continuous green line across the page with blue nav bar sitting on it (like horizon).

2. Make the 'login box' more appealing - possibly integrate into nav bar.

3. Try different colours of nav bar to see what fits best with existing logo (Note: new logo NOT required)

4. If it looks better try changing the font / colour scheme of main content page to match nav bar / logo.

5. The colour scheme should represent 'turf green', 'all weather orange', and a nice blue.
Look at existing colours in the css files (turf = #0D6F0F, all weather = #D77713)

6. Has to work in IE 7/6, FF 3/2, and Mac Browsers

You may want to either clean up what I have done already or start new but I really like that nav bar and the current layout 2 / 3 column content layout.

Here's a quick overview.

To see that page bigger with the instructions on it visit this page:

instructions

Just to clarify. What I would end up with is two files:

new_index.html
flatstats_horse_racing.css (which incorporates the menu_style.css)
Color Scheme: see message   Type of Design: Layout   Desired Dimensions: see message   Desired Filetypes: html / css   Prize: $250 USD or £125 GBP   How prize will be delivered: PayPal or can do Chq / Online banking in UK   End Date: 21-Aug-08

Honestly, I don't think you should do a contest for that. To really make successfull changes one would need you ftp data to work directly with the source. In my opinion you should approach just one designer/coder to do the work for you. I'm sure there enough people out there, who would do that for the money. (Like me ;-) )

But that's just my opinion.

That's what I was undecided about at first - freelance or contest.

But then seeing no designing is really need here - it's just a matter of cleaning up the code I have already written: move nav bar there, change a colour here, tart up a login box there etc.

Easy money for a few hours work if someone wants it.

I would do it also and for less than your suggested price... However I really don't think this is an appropriate contest as the work is code clean up rather than original design.

I think this way is actually quicker and easier. Who ever does the best work / in the quickest time wins the prize. Winner takes all

Heres the looks, Ill provide the css and valid xhtml if chosen since the code is so easy to steal.

I found this really funny

Ha, there is no way to enforce that

That is slightly off topic but I will respond - it is to prevent certain behavourial targetting ad companies from taking copyright material here in the UK.

As for your design the header bar is not lined up. Here's my initial design:

See the way everything is centred: the logo, nav bar and login box are all in the parallel lines of the main content.

This was my first design but I wasn't happy with the left hand menus. I ditched those to give more content area and found that cool css drop down menu.

The task here is to fit that existing nav bar into the right place, experiment with the colours, and to make the login box neater (I think it's too clunky and doesn't look nice against the nav bar).

Frank, your first design was superior. I'd stick with that if I were you.

That looks good but how about trying to put the login box above the nav bar? And possibly try a different style for the login box?

highanddry point noted but it was not practical enough. The left hand menu was too restrictive on the page.

Believe me, on some of the stats pages there are a mass of numbers tables and charts so I needed the real estate space and thus the left hand menus had to go.

Is that for me? I just thought that if the login area was above the nav it would look cramped and congested. Login in this sidebar is quite popular and avoids a complicated look. But if you wish I'll have a think. I will try to change the style of it.

yourmedia. You can increase the height of the header if it helps to squeeze the login box there.

Heres my next go. I made the header slightly bigger to fit in the login area.

Here's mine (I've uploaded it and it XHTML 1.0 Transitional Compliant as a bonus):
http://www.dreamedupdesign.com/flatstats/new_index.html

Like your current design, the footer doesn't work in IE (I'd like to see if my fellow competitors have realised/fixed this) but I'm working on it.

Everything else done Any other changes?

Thats a good working example Foundationflash. It's good to see the nav bar working there.

How about a variation in the colours for the nav bar?

I had thought of making it a sort of reference to the horizon - long green line with a blue bar above it. Sort of green grass, blue sky thing.

Can you try a blue nav bar first and then the orange "sand" colour?

Yep mediaking that's looking good too. You have the blue and green as I had envisaged.

I think there is a saying "blue and green should not be seen unless there is a colour in between". It looks OK here though as the bottom end of the nav bar is dark.

Would like some variations on the colours to see what works best - see if the orange in the logo would work on the nav bar.

As for the login box that is another variation there. You've gone for the big option whilst Foundationflash went for the minimalistic floating in the sky look which is fine too.

I sort of had this idea like the myspace login box or something with more rounded corners. My attempt at the login box looked too chunky.

Just run some of your examples past the boss.

How about the nav bar being the same colour as the Join Now! badge on that page? Blue with gradient going light to dark resting on the green?
