Web design contest for webcomso.com website. We are adding a social networking component, so we need the site redesigned.

Prize: $400 (will be paid via paypal only)

Basic Requirements:

Design must be unique, nobody have it.
Design will be two pages, home page and one inner page.
I have the sole right not to choose a winner if I feel like there is no quality design.
Design must be user friendly.
You can submit multiple designs.
You must give me the psd, ai and any other resource files if your design is chosen as winner.
Must not use any copyright materials
Design must follow the design requirements mentioned below.

Design Requirements:

Width and Alignments:
950 pixels wide and center aligned

Color Schemes:
Upto you

Post Ad
Subscribe
Browse Menu with items – Browse people – Browse Business
Search
My Account
Footer

Classified Ads:
If the user did not select a location, we will have:
-An intro for classified ads. Something similar to the one on the existing site.
-Dropdown menu for country/state/city to select a location.
-Link to the “Location List” page.
-“Post Classified Ads” link.
- Event Calendar

If user has already selected a location:
-Show current location (country/state/city)
-“Change Location” link. Which would be the Location List page.
-Main categories. E.g. For Sale, Jobs, Community etc. We would not show any subcategory on the front page to improve load time.
-5 Most recent ad posted. Ad title(as link), user posted(as link to profile page).
-Quick Search function. Will have a textbox, and a main category dropdown menu.

Social Networking:
-4 recently joined members. We will NOT show profile picture, instead we would show icon and username as link to profile page.
-4 or so recent polls. We will show title (as link) and user who have posted it (as link). Also we would show Post a Poll link.
-4 or so Recent Business listed. We will show business name(as link), category(link).
-Search Business feature. Textbox, category dropdown menu, and a search button.
-Search people feature. We will show the basic search on homepage. Basic feature would have ** radio buttons for 1. All 2. Name 3. Display Name 4. Email ** a textbox ** a short instruction ** a find/search button. Like the “Find a friend” option on this mySpace page Find Friends and Search Profiles on MySpace Also we would show a link for “All search options”.
-We can have the two search options (business and people) as tabbed. Upto you.

Hi there Webcosmo, I am indeed interested, however, Is this for a Web Design or the adjoining pages? Unfortunately I could only commit if this was for a design only.

Hey Webcosmo, I have three questions!

1. Do you want us to use the current logo? If so, can you provide either a .psd or .ai for it? If not, can you give us some ideas as to what you'd like?

2. Are there any websites out there that you like the look of? Or, can you tell us what you don't like about the current design that you'd like changed?

3. So for the pages, you want us to design a classifieds page and a social networking page, or an index page and one of the two inside pages? To me it seems that the classifieds and networking might need to have different designs and then we'd have to submit three pages instead of two.

Attached is the font used. You may download the ai file from here webcosmo.com/img/logo2.zip (can't attach it exceeds 1MB forum limit for attachments). We like to keep the same vibe, but you may modify the color or may be modify little to fit the design. But we certainly like to keep the same vibe so our brand identity is intact.

Honestly I don't have a favorite one. A web 2.0 look keeping in mind the load time (so there isn't really need to use too many images) would be great.

Current design is not bad. But I wanna make it better so it help me attract first time visitors. Its more like a marketing helper.

The front page is the key for me. Classifieds and social network would be separate, you right. We can design a secondary page for this webcosmo.com/listing/search.aspx?countryId=1&gId=4 page. I am just hoping I can take the design following those two pages

If not chances are high I would need more help afterwards.

Are the "Classified Ads" and "Social Networking" to be placed on the same page? Where would they appear? I'm not really understanding the design you have in mind.

Most of the stuffs mentioned there are for the homepage. We would classifieds and the social networking both highlighted on the home page. Since we been a classified ads site for long time, we kind of need that so we don't loose visitors.

So on the body part we will somehow arrange classified ads and social networking part together.

Please post as an attachment, may be a gif file, so we can take a look. Once we have a winner I will get the asset files and give the money

Last question before I come up with something -- will this be a home page with links/recent posts to the forums or will the forums be included in this page?

Forum is a separate site, we would not have that part of the design.
By recent posts I meant "recent classified ads".

I would be honest, not good. Its gonna need to be way lot better then this.

In the body part lot of elements are placed as buttons, we need them as blocks like other social networking sites do. That got an SEO aspect of it.

Button are not professional looking.

Too much empty space here and there.

....to mention a few aspects of the design.

Please don't take it personally. I am just expressing how I truly feeling about it.

What are you referring to?

Tell me how you'd want me to improve the design. What works and what doesn't work? What is everything you don't like about the above design?
