I need to design a costume for a child that illustrates the nursery rhyme, "Hickory Dickory Dock". I think ironing images onto a shirt and pants will be the best way to acheive that, so that the overall costume will be a grandfather clock. On the front of the T-shirt, I would like an image that resembles a grandfather clock face (with the time at 1:00), which could have human facial features (eyes, nose, etc). This should be "cartoony" like an illustration that one might find in a nursery rhyme book. For the pants, a cartoon or real-looking mouse (or mice) would be running up or down the leg.

Using the same woodwork or grandfather clock type of design make applique to go down the arms and legs (optional?)
(I don't know what applique is, I got this instruction from my wife) If you know what this is, and make it so my wife likes it, there will be a bonus in it for you.

The background color of the shirt and pants will most likely be a brown color.

Here is an example of a clock face I found on the internet. Your design can be as similar or as different as you want.

This needs to be done by early next week, so unfortunately, this will be a short contest, as I will need time to print and iron.

Let me know of any questions you have, and I look forward to seeing your work!

Recap: All images need to be big enough to print on a kids T-shirt and pants.
1. Hickory Dickory Dock clock face. Cartoony. Time - 1:00
2. Mouse or mice running up or down
3. (bonus if done) Applique

Finally, if you don't know the nursery rhyme, here it is:
Quote:
Hickory Dickory dock,
The mouse ran up the clock,
The clock struck one
The mouse ran down,
Hickory Dickory dock.
Color Scheme: images will be ironed onto brown T-shirt and pants   Type of Design: Other   Desired Dimensions: T-shirt and pant sized   Desired Filetypes: whatever   Prize: $30   How prize will be delivered: paypal   End Date: 3/29/2009 7:12 PM Central

Any interest yet? Is the contest "prize" too low? Feedback is welcome

I'll give it a try. I do however have a couple of questions / statements.

You mentioned that you plan on ironing the images on the clothing, are you going to use the retail type iron-on transfers? If that's the case, you can only print 8.5x11 (the size of the transfer sheets), that's OK, but the design will have to work within these constraints. For example it might take three sheets to cover each leg of the pants and a couple of pages to cover the shirt. Do you have an idea of the size of the pants and shirt that you are going to use? It might be a good idea to "measure" the clothing with sheets of paper. Meaning, the legs of the pants can handle two sheets, the front of the shirt 3 etc.

Also, you mentioned that clothing will likely be brown, I think you will find you'll get a better result using the transfers on light colored clothing. They make a transfer paper specifically for dark clothes but it is very opaque and would require a considerable amount of trimming of the transfer. I would suggest a light color material (preferably white) and use the standard transfer sheets. It is my opinion that you will get better results.

...all just my 2¢

If you can let me know what size the design should be I'd be glad to work on something. If my design is chosen, it will be delivered to you "cut up" into the appropriate separate sheets for printing.

...as far as the "prize" amount, the higher the amount the more entries you are likely to get. -Keith

twistedpiston - thanks for replying. Ironing onto light colored clothing makes sense. I don't have a shirt in front of me (the child is 4 years old), but I'm guessing that one 8.5x11 would be plenty large enough for the front of the shirt. And for the pants, 1/2 or 1/4 page should be large enough for a mouse image.

I just received an update... the image may be printed onto white "fabric paper", and sewn onto a shirt instead of ironed. It sounds like either way, it should not affect what the image looks like. (thanks to twistedpiston, we will use a white background instead of brown)

I appreciate the help. Still not sure what applique is, though.

Thanks again.

An appliqué sounds like what you are going to do. An appliqué is ornamentation, as a cutout design, that is sewn on to or otherwise applied to a piece of material.

....I'm working on the design now and I'll post something later.

Thanks for the updated information!

I think it's great! I am officially changing the end of the contest to today at 11:00 AM Central. If there are any more entries in that time, they will be considered, but nothing will be considered after that.

Thanks.
