Ark :-) Thanks, but it's always what makes the client happy, and it always amazes me during competition what they end up choosing... just goes to show the power of opinion. :-)

Again good job Aleema

Aleema threw a curve ball I guess...I was thinking I wanted a boat/water theme, but her logo struck me as professional and different. The font and graphic really made the name stand out.

If its any consolation Mindlash, I thought you logo was a very close 2nd

I'm sorry that it's so shocking that I won -- I didn't think I sucked THAT much. I think the only reason mindlash didn't win was because he didn't make his logo versatile. When you make logos you shouldn't try to sell it with a banner. Logos need to go on any background at any size. When you make logos too dependent on their background, they just don't seem helpful. They need these things on shirts, mugs, and mousepads. People want more than just plain text, too. Icons mixed with original text is always the best logos (I believe). You guys just need more experience in making logos. I don't think I won on skill alone, I think it's because I knew how to make a logo.

Aleema, it wasn't my intention to make you feel as if I thought your logo was sub-standard. It wasn't at all. Matter of fact, I liked it. I just found it a little odd that initially he corrected himself after a couple of submissions to say something along the lines of 'oh yeah it's speed boats', and your nice logo ended up having an old-school wheel on it... that was the 'interesting' comment I made.

Apart from that, the request for constructive criticism on the thread-starter's behalf wasn't geared at why he chose your design, but to help those of us that entered understand his thinking, so that we may better adapt 'requests' for work into a more detailed understanding initially.

I'm quite familiar with design work Aleema, thank you for the tutorial :-)

My sentiments exactly Aleema. I saw your logo, and it looked much more "user friendly".

Mindlash, I did make a correction to gear it towards powerboats (not necessarily speedboats), as a sailboat (which was the first submission) is a much more narrow market. An "old school wheel" is instantly recognizable as a universally used item for boats, and as I said, helped the name/logo stand out.
