Graphic Design Contests

Hey All,

If you've been paying attention you've no doubt noticed that we've been running contests for logos to celebrate different holidays. The thing is there are only so many holidays in the year.

So we have a new idea which is to create logos celebrating historical anniversaries in computers and the web.

July marks the anniversary of the first Apple computers being made and sold so we'll start with a contest where your logo should be something Apple Computers related.

The same rules as always apply. Submit your designs here and once the contest is closed I'll start a new thread asking everyone to vote.

One thing I discovered in trying to research tech anniversaries is they aren't as easy to find as I thought. Years are easy to find, but not so much months or dates. We don't really need to know an exact day, but a month is helpful.

Then it hit me that we have a pretty smart membership here and I'm sure many of you already know some of these dates. I'll be starting a thread in a few minutes asking everyone if they know historical anniversaries around computers and the web which we can use for future contests.

Good luck to all who enter this contest. We've gotten some really great entries to the past contests and I'm looking forward to seeing what you all come up with for this one.

Nice. Would you believe I owned one of those early Mac's. Apple built some specifically for the university I went to and one other. I had one of the first 5,000 or so Macs off the assembly line.

Here's a concept idea
I decided to illustrate the 2 chat bubbles, one being an apple with a keyboard & the other being a user typing on the keyboard. I wanted to avoid using the actual Apple/Mac logo to insure that there would be no copyright issues.

Very cool, if you had it today you could certainly make a pretty penny off of it.

Can we find some (legal) way of using the Banana Jr. 6000 from Bloom County?

I called the old dot-matrix printers "banana printers" because of the sound they made when printing: "Banana! Banana! Ba-na-na!"

To be honest, a link on this site is not very enticing.
Its not gonna put any food on the table.

So don't enter the contest then. The prize wasn't my decision, but I doubt you're going to see anything else. The main idea behind these contests is to let the community have some fun. It was suggested that we have different logos for holidays, which we thought was a good idea. We then thought it would be a fun idea to let members here design those logos.

If you don't want to enter a logo in the contest, then don't enter a logo. Seriously, if it's all about the money then entering any contest isn't exactly the best use of your time.

Thanks All. I think we're getting some different and interesting designs. I like how some are focusing on the computer and others on the Apple. It'll be interesting to see which wins when it's time for the vote.

Speaking of the vote, you have about a week left to enter a logo and then I'll grab them all and set up the thread to pick your favorite.
