I need a top banner for my site, Impartial Investor (see my signature for the url.)

I am looking for something professional and serious looking to go with the tone of the site and I would obviously like it to match my colour scheme

I would like either "Impartial Investor" or "The Impartial Investor" to be in the site heading and I am open to the use of logos, although they are not essential. I do not need any navigation put into the banner as I am going to retain my existing Navigation.

Please submit entries with watermarks to this thread.

The prize will be £20 sterling or whatever the dollar equivelant is, to be paid via paypal.

Thanks and good luck

My effort can be found at http://home.insightbb.com/~timyow/logo.htm

Let me know if this is along the lines of what you were hoping for. Other design ideas are waiting to be created.

Hi,

Had a quick go at a couple, I'm not sure if they are what you are looking for or not but I will gladly make any changes you would like to see for the final draft:

Heres the first 1 less corporate than the other one :d :

Click here if the image isn't displaying properly!

Img 2 is attached below (hopefully).

If not it is here;

Cheers

To Dismal monkey, yes that is the kind of thing I am looking for, very professional and crisp.

To Rooted to the web, I like it but I want something very serious looking, a bit more along the lines of Dismal monkey's effort

To Dant, same thing again, your second entry is more of what I am looking for.

Incidently, I will competition for a week from today and contact the winner next Saturday. Thanks for your efforts so far.

Did any of you notice that the banner is only about 60 pixels in hight? Some of you are making banners 3 times that size. Professional websites do not have 200 pixel high banners. It also needs to be less than 800 pixels in width. The right side will expand with a background image, as it does now.

I made a quick draft here.

How long have some of you been making banners?

Sounds like you are slagging the other entrants off

I always make my designs bigger than they need to be to give the "client" a better idea of what the banner looks like on its own. It doesnt take long to resize a logo.

Perhaps you should be encouraging more members of the forum to enter the competition by simply attaching your file instead of passing your judgements on what you view to be professional.

Well spoken Dant. Perhaps he thinks that by belittling everyone else he will appear as the only "professional" here.
On the other hand, he could be honestly interested in how long everybody has been making banners for......maybe not!

For such a condescending voice, he sure has spent quite a while on "Version 3" of his website... Lengthy production of a simple portfolio website is unprofessional... If you ask me, anyways.

No, I am trying to discourage anyone, I just am inputing my opinon. I didn't expect so many harsh remarks. Sorry if I made anyone mad, buy I just don't see the logic in making a picture 3 times bigger than it can be and then resizing it. Why would a client need an idea of a bigger banner if he would never use it? If it would most probably have to change completely to look good as a smaller banner?

If he actually wants a 200 px. high banner, fine. I just don't think it promote his site as professional at all.

And Program, nice site you have there.

Jake: I dont think this is the place to argue about this matter, I just felt you were being unfair. As a designer yourself I should have thought you would have known there are different ways of tackling a problem; it is my way to make images bigger then resize - if you view that as illogical then so be it! Yes a 200 pixel high banner would have been perhaps a tad unprofessional, but it could easily be resized and changed.

Anyway, I have made a few changes and here it is resized it to 60.

Some of them look really good! Very clever idea these graphic design competitions - £20 wouldn't buy this many drafts from a graphic designer would it!

I may submit something soon.

Jake: I notice you have a tendency to make a lot of those kinds of comments around here, especially towards other people's entries which seem to be just as good as yours. Are you a professional designer yourself?
