Graphic Design Contests

I have been looking at this forum for a while now and have been so impressed by what you guys can do I have decided it is time for me to upgrade my website. I am not sure if I can hold a competition for the redesign of the whole site or not so I will start with the logo!

My site is called www.supermums.co.uk and is used to drive people towards a nanny agency. I decided a while ago to give the business a “cartoony” feel with a friendly and colourful atmosphere. This will be a fairly easy competition for anyone with any ability with graphics packages as the image I want incorporated in the logo is on the index page of the website and the font (Which does not work on the website) should be a font called “Girls are weird” which can be downloaded from the following link:

With regards to the font I want the first “u” in Super coloured pastel pink and the first “u” in Mums coloured in pastel blue.

I want the logo at the top left hand side of the page.

I will give feedback on any logos posted and I hope we will have some fun here!

If I am allowed to run a competition to totally redesign the website please let me know – or if you are interested in taking the job on please get in touch.

You are 100% permitted to run a competition for a total redesign. They are quite popular.

Smal concern: Because you are giving the exact font and image and therefore the colors to use in the logo, won't all the logos look the same?

I think I have been a little too specific here Matt! I will now use the ideas in my first post a a guide as to what I was originally thinking but please use your imagination and go wild!

Scotland, alright that sounds good. I'm sure all of us will still be using that image that is on your website in the logo but as far as font goes and some of the other stuff, we will be creative.

170designs, 4 nice looking entries. I think I like the last one best - I'm not really sure why but I suppose that it looks quite bold without being too threatening - if that makes sense?!

andypugh, I think this might be my favourite so far. 170designs was right when he said that I should let people have more freedom to be creative as this entry is totally different from the rest. The shadow effect is interesting but I am still trying to work out if I like it - and I'm also wondering if the logo without the left hand image would look even better. Great entry though.

170designs
I think it would be a good idea to enter a few more designs. There have been some strong entries with more and more imagination. I have seen some of the logos you have done before when I was looking at other threads and I know that you improve with every entry. I would suggest that you should keep it simple but play around a little - Good luck!

I really like these entries. I worry that the blue background may clash with the little boys top - but a fantastic idea. Totally different from anything posted yet - but not too cluttered.

I will make the closing date next Monday (11th July). I will make amendments to my first post to confirm this. Keep the entries coming!

**OFF TOPIC**
The reason the text at the top of your site is not being shown on other computers is because the font used is PC specific [ I.E. it is only installed on your PC ]. When a font is specified using either CSS or the <font> tags it looks in the C:\windows\fonts directory of the PC to locate the font, if it cannot be located the nearest font is selected.

Seeing as the font you choose was downloaded and not a windows default, this would cause the situation above to occur.

170designs, both your new entries are strong. I like them both a lot. If I was to criticise them at all I would say that they would not stand out as much as I would like. I hope that you enter a few more logos as I really like your style.

dismaldonkey Thanks for the edited selection with new backgrounds. I think that the backgrounds that you have chosen are a little strong. I think that for this company the logo must stand out but a balange between subtle pastel colours and a bold logo must be found. If you feel like entering a few more designs - I look forward to seeing them.

dbay, Thank you for your entry. think it needs to be a little more eye catching - but on the other hand I do like it a lot. Every time I look at it I like it more - but I do think it is missing something.

I might post my top 3 logos that you have submitted in the next few days so you kow where you stand but I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not. Let me know if you want me to and if I have enough support then I shall.
