Advice / Template needed

hey guys, I have a small trophy/award store I own and would like to re-do my website. I built my website about 2 years ago with the free 'website builder' program that homestead offers. Its kind of a drag and drop very basic program, but it worked for the time...
but now the business has picked up quite a bit and I really need a nice functional website. Currently my website looks 'home made' and would like it to look a little more up to date, plus I need to add alot of things and finish it up, i never actually finished anyway...
anyway, here is what i have now
www.awardsandbeyond.com
as you can see, it needs a makeover. Id like something real simple, yet still really new looking... id like a store type website, not sure about the cart thing or not, but at least something that looks more like a real store website...
anyone have any ideas and/or a template I could use?

You could start a contest, but then you would have to pay for it.
try looking for free template sites (google it) if you're broke or not willing to pay

well you guys could get an idea of what im looking for by checking out my current site. I have tons of jpg images of trophies, plaques, etc that I would like added that I can get later...
so you can use your own judgement on what to do, but id like something more professional looking, yet simple and easy to navigate through...
what would going rate for something like this cost for a 'contest'

00bolt,
I would suggest $320.00 or more range for a template designed site.

$320! For a templated site? What planet do you live on? He just wants someone to make-over his website, not buy a whole new computer too.

Dismal, have you ever made a template? Maybe you don't know the time involved in making a nice design. I'm from planet earth where time = money. Bolt put together a site with frontpage or whatever program and he's not satisfied with how it came out and wants something with a more professional look.
If you want professionalism as far as a site design is concerned it would cost more than $320. So $320 is already a great deal.

I've made dozens of templates, I've got a whole website full of them! (Not all made by me I must add).
I think 00Bolt doesn't want a template specifically made for him, he wants someone to adapt a pre-existing template to his needs. It looks like a simple "insert text and images here" type job. We all know that the going competition rate on a forum for that kind of job is around the $50 mark.

We are not talking about making a template for $50. we are talking about ADAPTING an existing template. 00Bolt asked what the going rate for a contest would be. I would like you to show me any contest on this forum that has offered a prize of anywhere near $320.

What the **** is that meant to mean? Just because you want to try and screw $320 out of someone looking for some help and advice, doesn't mean the rest of us have to.

You sound like you're very young, perhaps 14 or 15 years old. You can't compare your 50 dollar free template that you got from like monstertemplates.com to a real professionally made piece of work that someone designed.

Try reading his post. He doesn't want a bespoke (look it up, it's a big word) website designed. He wants a quick makeover using an existing template. He asked how much a competition would cost to do such a thing. If he had come to me unsolicited (ooh, another big word for a 14 year old) and asked me to design a website for him from the ground up, then yes, £320 would be cheap. HE DIDN'T.
00blt, please enter your competition, place a prize of around $50 and I promise you that you will get at least 6 first class entries. If you really want to throw your money away, you know who to call.

dismal I read his post. He didn't ask for a premade template, he asked for a template. a template could be made from scratch 15 minutes from now or could have been already made. Either way, I suggested $320.00 because I design graphics/sites/flash animation for a living and that's what a day's work is for me. Even if I had a PREMADE template that I took the time to design, I would charge based on the time I worked on it.
Anyhow, I suggested a price on my work. Perhaps you're right about $50 being "first class" based on your design skills. Either way we shouldn't even be arguing about this. In the end the $320 would be the winning designers prize money. And the $320 design would hopefully end up being better for both the designer and the person requesting the design.

How dare you! How absolutely ******* dare you! You have no idea whatsoever about my skills on anything. You don't know me, you have never met me, we have never even talked before, so don't you dare try to patronise me.
If anyone is ever thinking about going to Line an asking him to design a website or anything for them, please come to me first and I will do it for the "amateur" fee of $50. Let's see who that ends up better for!

Personally, I think, if the template is only going to be single, html page, 320$ is a bit steep. I can't remember a good template contest here that was upwards of a 150$. He didn't ask for flash, so that doesn't need to be factored in.
Bolt, make a contest and ask the participants to name their own prices per entry. If someone submits a very good, but expensive template, you may be inclined to look at others. And vice-versa.

Bolt, the main thing I can recommend to you is to post the competition and offer whatever prize you are comfortable with. That way you are guaranteed that anyone who enters will agree that the prize money is acceptable to them.
Line - You have an exceptional website, I am really very impessed with it. I think things started to go a little out of hand on this post between us...on both our sides. No hard feelings, eh?

well id feel better myself if you guys shook hands and had no hard feelins..
anyway, i didnt specify in my post and to be honest when I posted it I didnt really even know exactly what I was looking for. But to clear things up a bit... I understand if someone spends TONS of hours creating a site from scratch it will cost more... actually $300 for that seems like a very good price, actually seems great!!!
but i dont really want to spend that kind of money, im not really looking for something specifically custom to me... if you can find an already made online store template off the web for free and just have to do a few tweaks to customize it to me, then great!!!
sorry for the confusion...
i have started a new thread with a contest for anyone interested in blowing me away
