Hm, odd. Still doesn't work. Flash on other sites work, but yours does not. Maybe it's my PC.
Doesnt work for me either. Tried it in FF and IE.

Ok please check out this link, it seems to be working now.

http://www.skywide.net/inwork/banner04.html

Updates/changes :
- I have added sub-sub menus, to see how they will work click Passions/Automobiles (there is of course no limit on the amount of sub-sub categories you may have, as the bar is able to run the entire screen)
- I've added a timer function, if the mouse does not roll-over a menu button for 4 seconds it will automatically close all open sub-menus
- Re-coloured gray bar to lime-green

Indeed,

However the important question is this, is it working now?

Yes it is working now. The glow effect is nice but quite vague.

Thanks for the changes, Blake. Real nice and doesn't seem to add too much to the load time (still loads fastest in Netscape). I hesitate to mention more changes for fear any of you will say, "screw you, buddy, that's all yer gettin' for a hunert bucks", but I live on the edge. So, here's a few more suggestions/comments/requests (OK, so I'm beggin'):

I don't care for the timer. When a visitor hovers over the main menu items, they glow (I like the subtlety that zman mentioned, but perhaps just a little brighter would be nice) and when they click on an item with sub-menus they slide out. That is a very cool effect, but I don't think they should slide back in if the visitor doesn't click or move over something else. Maybe they are just reading something or looking around before clicking and then, oops, they gotta go back and click on it again.

Then the sub-sub-menus. First, I am worried that when I add more categories I will have to learn or hire someone who can edit Flash to add a single or couple more menu items. I think hovering over an item in the sub-menu should drop a standard roll-over menu down. This will also allow someone to click the sub-menu and get an introduction page for that category with links to the other pages in that category there, or they can move down to the drop-down sub-sub-menu to click on the individual pages there. Standard roll-over menus in HTML or PHP I know how to code. I hope that's not too confusing.

The banner group of images: Thanks for changing it to lime green again. I could see something was different, but couldn't quite figger it out until I compared it to the very first submission here, http://www.skywide.net/inwork/layout01.jpg. You have added about 18 pixels to the height of the banner. I like how the smaller one looks better (or maybe somewhere in between), which would have less dead space between the bottom of the page title text and the the top of the navbar. I think the progressive layers of panels with the 45° angles look real good, but they might have a more 3 dimensional appearance if the layers were slightly more pronounced like with a 1px stroke at the bottom of each edge. The top panel could be the lime green color with the red text for the page title.

Your version of the avatar. I think I like yours even better than my original -- I actually have that depression in my own nose. But, (I know, I am sooo anal sometimes), can you add one more line under the chin, half the length of the one already there and justified left?

After saying all of that, let me add that I appreciate the fact that you are the real artist here, not me. My thoughts and ideas are just that. If something I asked for makes it look uglier or unbalanced, you'll have to speak up. Of course you will.

Thanks again, very nice work.

Grump

Final Revision. Ads can go on left bar if you wish. The subnav bar will expand down if you need more space for links.

Thank you very much for that, Jake. You have designed a very handsome template and I appreciate all the hard work and talent you have put into it. However, I think Blake has captured the look and feel I am after. His design has a relaxed look with just a touch of refinement. The attention to details and splash of Flash brings it over the edge. It best represents the look and feel I described in my opening announcement.

After discussing it with the administrator, I have decided to close the contest early. There may still be stragglers with entries they are working on this weekend, so I will announce the winner on Tuesday. Everyone has until just before midnight Monday night to enter or make revisions (this applies to all the forums the contest is running on). The contest is still open, but I am leaning heavily in favor of announcing Blake as the winner. I thank everyone for their entries and all the productive comments.

Best R'gards,

Grump

So were a few others. He said that it wasn't what he was looking for. I guess it could work for a blog type website in the future.

Just to let everyone know, the template that I made is now for sale for 150$ USD or 125$ and a signup for the ipod link in my sig. Good deal.

It's Tuesday night and, like I promised, I am back to announce the winner. Blakehil has the design I would like to see translated into a template. You can view the image of it HERE, although he may remove it (I hope not for a while anyway).

Thank you all for making this an interesting thread and for the work you all submitted. Even though the only prize to be given on each forum this contest ran on was either the winning 100.00 or the consolation prize of a measly 10.00, I have decided that Jake put forth a quality effort and wanted to give him a consolation prize anyway. Thank you very much.

Blake, please review the original post. I hope to see a working template from you soon, so I can send you the 100.00 prize. You have my email address. Jake, I see your email address and will send your 10.00 tomorrow. Both of you please report back in this thread that you have received the awards, so that everyone will know we held up our bargains.

Thank you all again,

Grump

Consolation prize received.

Grump, if you are interested in what I did to your template, go here. It's been given a facelift, and will soon be the design for my personal website, nefex.net. There is a black version also.

So I got 10 bucks and a cool template for my own website. Thanks Grump!
