I would be glad to give this a shot sometime over the next few days.
We only need to create a new logo to go where the rounded silver/grey rectangle is now?
We don't need to recreate anything where the cogs and/or blue/green are?

Correct.

Correct, unless of course you wanted to create an entirely new header. But it is not required or part of this contest.

I might just do that, it could be fun.
Anyway, I have the next 2 weeks almost entirely free to myself, so expect about 25 entries from me to choose out of.

First attempt, featuring the talkers from the old header and the favicon in 3d....
You said 'grey background' and I'm thinking this is probably too dark, but it can be tweaked.

After you designed your logo (Tim said you can crop out the header and start from there), you have two options.
1. Use the [img] tags in your post and upload your images somewhere. Many people use ImageShack.
2. Add your logo as an attachment.

Here we go, this was a bit rushed, I can touch it up over the next few days if you think it has any potential at all;

Please comment and critique.
Colours can be changed and I can add a ".com" in whatever colours, sizes, etc you like.
I would also be happy to move the pin or "thumbtack".

Take a screen shot and then paste the entire thing into photoshop or whatever you use. Then crop out everything except the header or just the logo.
It may be better to leave part the old header with your new logo so that it will be easier to get the whole look and feel...

Here is a blank that users may want to use.

0beron, Nice start. I like the three little talkers. The text and quote box could use some tweaking.
CannonBallGuy, Please no offense, but that one is not really working for me. No people pics please.

Hmm, Okay Mr Schroeder.
What if the "person" is more of an illustration or some kind of icon of a person or people...?
And, what about the microphone?
Thanks,
CBG
P.S. We don't have to use the same grey background as in the current logo part of the header, right?

Tim, I re-read your post and realised you meant 'the current one has the grey background' and not 'the new one must have a grey background'.
I much prefer this one:
EDIT: I've taken your suggestion and pasted my logo over the current header in the right place. I'll need to tweak colours to match a bit, plus the edge of the logo is very obvious since the rounded corner is gone. I'll work some more on it and maybe try a whole header.
