Hi! My husband's band is in need of a flyer for a big show! His band is called FreeVerse. You can check their website out at www.freeverselive.com or at www.myspace.com/freeverselive. These are the details regarding the show (I copied and pasted this from their website):

November 24th
Live at the Cornerstone Pub
314 Main Street, NLR, AR
$5

An evening of music and madness! FreeVerse and The Munks will morph into one
After the Hogs spank the LSU Tigers! LS who?

The music will be an alternative organic fusion of country and psychedelic folk rock that would make Jerry Garcia's momma cry!

Guitars, harmonica, pedal steel, violin, banjo, keys, bass, drums, and juice harp, etc.

...you get the idea.

Anyway, he's going to be printing 3.5x5 flyers in black and white, so if it's a color flyer you're submitting, please make sure it looks okay in greyscale. As far as design ideas go, please stay away from hippie stereotypes (flowers, peace signs, etc.) Other than that, he's pretty open to ideas! I will make sure to follow up with frequent feedback to keep everyone in the loop!

End date: Tuesday, November 21st, Midnight CST

You just want those three pieces of info on the flyer? The when who and where I mean? By the way, listening to the song on the freeverse website, its great! Being a musician myself I like to hear new stuff, and I have to say, this is good stuff! Tell them to keep up the good work for me, and if they're ever in Michigan, holler at me. PEACE!

Karklaskamar - Glad you like the music! I hope it gives you some inspiration for the flyer.

The who, when and where is about all that's needed. If I didn't make it clear inthe post earlier, they're sharing the stage with another band called The Munks. That information will need to be on the flyer. A short description of the music might work too. Also, since it's getting passed out at a game, maybe you could put something about it being a "post-game" event on there. Look forward to seeing your flyer!

I just did it greyscale so I wouldn't have to worry. I printed it off and it looks good. It's all easily legible, no hippy flowers or stuff like that, but pretty psychedelic. Get back to me!

The real version is a lot clearer, full sized, and in 300dpi so it will print nicely! I hope you like it!

I think that you are right Karklaskamar. I did mine in 300dpi resolution, and I think that is why it is so much bigger (I even shrunk the original down). When viewed on the web, it is huge, but it will print in the correct size.

Oh, Ok, thanks Moderator. I have Jim Croce stuck in my head and I can't help but say moderator instead of operator in the song of the same name. It's funny to me, that stuff happens to me all the time. Anyway, thanks again! PEACE!

They're good, but not exactly what I'm looking for. Here are some artist's links with examples of the types of psychedelic handbills/flyers I'm looking for. Some of these examples are very detailed works of art and I'm not expecting them to be replicated in any way. They're meant for inspiration more than anything.

Karklaskamar - Thanks so much for the entry! It looks like something that would be really cool in color! In black and white though, the text seems to blend into the background a bit. Is there any way to make the text pop? Could you try a different font with an outline or glow around the lettering perhaps? Also, The text needs to be rearranged a bit so that the bands names are the main focus. It just seems a bit unorganized. Thanks again for your time. I look forward to seeing your next entry!

angele803 - Thanks for entry also! It's very easy to read, which is nice! I also like the use of the "LS WHO?". There are a few things I'd like to see if you can change though. The band photo is not needed on the flyer. Also, could you take out the instrument details? Lastly, could you try a different font? I do like the clarity of the font you used, but I think it might add something to the design if there was some funky text added. Thanks so much for your time and effort!

Print quality is much better. This is resized and optimized for the forum.
The fonts can be changed if you don't like them.

Wow! There are some really good entries so far! Thanks to everyone for the time and talent put into this. It's really appreciated! Feedback is as follows:

borzoid - This design looks great in b&w! I really like the font used with the band's name, but the other band's name should be up there too. "FreeVerse and The Munks" or "FreeVerse & The Munks"...something along those lines. Also, the band photos look great, but aren't needed. If you feel like messing with it a bit, I'd love to see what you can come up with.

genelmx - I like this one a lot!!

It definitely has potential. That was a great idea to use the myspace background! It looks really good in b&w! Since this show is collaboration though, could you add The Munks under "FreeVerse"? Thanks so much.

Karklaskamar - I'm glad the examples helped you! That's a really cool design you came up with. I really love the font you used for the title. If you could fill in some of the lines, I think it would add something to the design. Also, maybe omit some of the details - I think your design might work better if we just stick to the who when and where...oh, and the how much ($5).

go0t - Thanks for your design! I really like the background and the font you used. The words look really cool, but seem a bit jumbled in places. Also, as cool as the sax player outline is, there's no sax player...at least not that night. Maybe if you used a different image perhaps? Lastly, could you also add "The Munks" somewhere on there? Thanks so much for your time! Oh - and I'm glad you dig the band!!

Wow this is a total who is the best at photoshop contests.

I dont know if im going to enter because I dont have time to make a flyer that big.
If I do get the chance I will try but dont expect it.

I wouldn't say its that twirp, I've just started using photoshop about a month ago, and being here has helped my skills immensly. Everyone here is friendly and constuctive. I'd recommend trying anyway if not for the excellent feedback, especailly from this thread's creator.

I'm not sure if The Munks is just the opening act or the side band so I don't know if it's right that I made The Munks a little smaller - FreeVerse occupying most space on the flyer, I hope it's not too bias.
