Though one of the web2.0 "requirements" is that data should be represented with ease. Most people assume they have to have to code their entire website with rubyonrails and use AJAX to get it on but do we really need it? Unless you are running a fast-paced news site like digg. Simple html/css and php/sql is sufficient and perhaps a little AJAX for the 'Quick Reply' feature. I think the software this forum is running is good enough.

So let's drop the web2.0 hype when it comes to forums.
For the record I never once said that you, myself or anyone else had to use AJAX and RoR (which also for the record I dislike strongly). I think what I was really trying to say, in a rather roundabout way and also with some ranting towards the end, is that I personally don't think Tim is going to be fully satisfied with anything that comes out of this (sorry for putting words in your mouth Tim, if you disagree, please set the record straight). I think I understand what he is feeling by wanting a fresh new design however, adding the "hint of web 2.0" requirement might just be a stretch considering the rather bloated nature of a community forum.

I hope your comments weren't the result of the fact that I dislike your design though, if I gave offense then I truly apologize.

Not at all, don't take those comments back. I've been a freelance designer for years. I've participated in loads of forum contests and I know better than to be offended by a crit.

I think that when Tim started this contest, he had to objectives. One, he was looking to find a design that makes "Webmaster-Talk" unique and two, obviously as an Administrator, it's only right if you host community contests once in awhile.

So although the results of this contests MAY not be what he is looking for, he can simply not change it and save money on the coding part. You once said you were "In this to win." Where's that spirit now?

I think that spirit left me just after I realized that it was going to be an impossible task, perhaps I'm wrong though and I will admit that much. Perhaps I should come up with a fresh design though, even if it's never implemented at least I stand a better chance of winning.

Republikin, I do plan on selecting a winner shortly and using the new design. We were impressed with your submission. It just wasn't along the line of what we would want for these forums. My guidance was minimal so it's not your fault.

genelmx, I have been getting some input from the admin and mod team.

We all very much like your design. We especially like the new logo and icons you created. One thing we all agreed on however is that we were not in love with the black. The black looks good but does not really seem like a good color for our webmaster forums.

You will be hearing from me again soon.

Sorry for the delay on this but I'll be declaring genelmx the winner. He has been working on something privately that just needed a few tweaks.

Thanks for everyone who submitted an entry.

Be on the lookout for a new Webmaster-Talk design over the next few weeks.

Congrats genelmx.

Ah...... in recent discussions taking place about how contests are held, one of the complaints have been about CHs contacting and working with contestants privately while the contest is going on.

Hey Borzoid, I was the one who raised the issue about CHs contacting and working with contestants secretly but I assure you that Tim had already informed me that the Admin's has decided on my design.

I am now doing some customizing and editing to the design. Tim was probably too busy to announce that the winner was found.

There weren't any entries while Glenmax was working privatly anyways...

Congradulations; I am very much tired of this layout and looking forward to the new one! Had I not been busy, I would have submitted an entry. Sorry, but thanks!
