$50 MYSPACE LAYOUT DESIGN CONTEST IS NOW LIVE!!

Rules:

1. Prize: $50 to the best layout, chosen by me. Payment sent by Paypal or regular mail. If by mail, I'll cover up to $5.00 of delivery fees. Other options will be considered, but I reserve the right to reject them, so make sure you can accept one of the two if you want to win.

2. Eligibility: Everyone except me.

3. Entries: Unlimited number of entries are allowed. Just don't resubmit the same one over and over again.

How to enter:
a. Right on the page: http://www.ourspacer.com/myspacedesigncontest2007/
b. Downloading a textfile at http://www.ourspacer.com/myspacedesi.../entryform.txt and emailing it to MyspaceDesignContest2007@ourspacer.com
Unlike most layout contests, stuff isn't going to be posted directly into this thread. So if you make an entry, post here saying you did.

4. Rating criteria: My own opinion on which is best. No other criteria.

5. When this contest will end: Contest will end at 11:59pm precisely 30 days after 100 layouts are submitted. My goal is to get many unique layouts, so only three per entrant will be counted in this "at least 100" mark.

If something crazy happens, like I get overwhelmed with entries or spam, then I'll end or suspend the contest early. If I can't restart the contest, I'll pick a winner out of entries that have already been submitted.

6. General conditions: The purpose of running the contest is to get layouts for me to redistribute on my myspace editor site, so some simple requirements will be in order.
a. Not allowed to use images or code that can't be freely redistributed, because I need to redistribute them.
b. Repeating, Not allowed to use images that can't be freely redistributed by me.
c. If someone enters the contest, they have to agree to allow me full rights and ownership to the code created, including rights to redistribute and modify code in any way.
d. Not allowed to redistribute layout once entry has been entered. I don't want to give out the same layouts that some other site is giving out.

I want at least 100 entries. The contest will end 30 days after the 100th entry is received.

I just want to make sure everyone is clear on this.

Basically, the designer sells his/her design to "offthedome" for the chance to win $50. Even if you aren't the winner in the end, the designer still gives the rights of the design to "offthedome".

Is this correct?

I'm not BUYING the designs. The designer enters a design for a chance to win $50. Each one will be reviewed, and the best one will win, independent of how many that individual submitted. And yes, the designer gives me rights to the design.

there arnt even 100 active users in this section, so your going to just have to ask a designer to make you one and since your giving the money as a prize, the legal way so no copyrights are broken, you should have 2 deisgners design you your myspace layout.

Im just saying your not going to get 100 designers.

I think you're missing the point ... I need layouts for my myspace editor, to redistribute to users of ourspacer.com. If I only get a few from this site, that's OK with me. I'm also posting it on my website. There's a lot of web designers that do myspace, and my guess is, theirs would come out better than the average kid so they have a better chance of winning

It is a contest. If you don't want to enter, then don't.

I think $50 is pretty good for a myspace layout design contest.

I agree, its fine. I would enter i just dont have time for a project this big. Im thinking about just quitting Logo design

100 Designs, and only one winner of $50 - That works out as you paying $0.50 per design... were you being serious?

As you are wanting to re-distribute these designs, presumably to make profit I would suggest paying $25 for each design that you decide you would like to use. If I made some I would also ask for a bare minimum of 20% commission on each design you sold.

$25 per design is insane too. Good layouts are sold at a price of around $50 for 50, i.e. $1 each. It's really kinda hard to offer more than $50, since chances are the layout quality won't be so great.

I think the problem here was that the designers had to give up their rights to their design for a chance to win $50. In most contest, a designer enters a contest knowing they still have creative rights to the design if they don't win. They can still profit off of that design in the future.
You might post a request in the freelancer section and see if you can get some people to design some layouts for you at a low price.

Yes, there's no way I would do work on spec and give all my copyright for my design to someone who isn't willing to pay me outright to own the copyright, it's wrong
