Hi Armanno ... yes, I see what you meant and agree. Also, like the idea of the handle of the magnifying glass "aiming inward" and the "solid eye" of the dog on the inside. Both force the eye to grubstreet and down, more or less, the centre. You've also got a small tilt of the dog head, again to the centre. Minor point: any chance of getting two three squiggly lines on the newspaper, in mouth of dog, to make it look more authentic? If not, not a problem. Thanks. This is gonna be a difficult decision, and so much time to go. drgeorgep

This is pretty simple. I just cleaned up the logos a bit, and put in slightly different font. The different sized headers all have the same layout, but I adjusted each one so they're not stretched out or too small due to resizing.
This is what I have so far, but feel free to make suggestions
* Sorry, just realized this, but I'll fix the tagline error

Hi ... yk88, could the magnifying glass handle be turned inward, sort of pointing toward the centre? Takes a bit less space, allowing for more white space, and forces eye down to the content listings. Thanks. drgeorgep

Pigbait75 + Armanno ....

Hi ... PigB ... can you find a bit more white space between the slogan and grubstreet.ca. It seems a bit crammed. Also, can you apply the colour scheme in the original, so we can see how it looks? Thanks.
Armanno ... yes, anyway to use the magnifying glass effect, without cutting off part of a letter? What you did with the newspaper looks great. Can the slogan be in a brigh-ish blue? Thanks.
To all: have enlisted three suckers, er, I mean, judges to make the decision between 6-8 July. Do you want or need to know anything about these three sets of gimlet eyes? I'll post, if you do.
FYI: in case of a tie, duplicate prizes will be awarded. If we can't decide between A and B, A and B each get first prize winnings. Got the okay for this, just thought you should know.
Thanks.

the way your page is setup when you put in the original header it got stretched why I don't know. probably a coding error somewhere.
I was messing around with this screenshot, those are the oirignal colors and I made it a little taller so it would fit nicely. let me know what you think I can also put on a drop shadow to bring the letters out.

Hi ... entries are great and contest still has some time to go. If you're wondering who judges, brief bios of each judges may now be found at the bottom of the specs sheet: http://www.grubstreet.ca/logostuff.htm

Hi ... Armanno, am wondering, to get around the magnifying glass cutting off a letter, if the slogan might be changed to: grubstreet.ca: all the ideas that fit, and lots that don't. Might also fill up a bit of the white space to the right of the handle of the magnifying glass. Just a tho't.
Pigbait ... yeah, more like it.
It's gonna be a tough decision.
Thanks.

Hi ... we decided on two winners. Pigbait75 and Armanno each received, by now, the $50 first prize. Every submission was viable, usable for one or many purposes. The only thing everyone agreed on, from the start, was that the final decision was a tough one. Thanks to everybody who submitted, your effort and ideas are most appreciated. drgeorgep

Hi ... as you read, above, we went with two winners and awarded duplicate first prizes. We had two main purposes for the header. Silly policy, who can serve two masters. We realized we needed two headers. Thanks to all.
Wanted to add that working with Armanno was top drawer. We ran into some minor problems, which sort of built to a frustrating climax, before a solution presented. Armanno was patient, helpful beyond hope, and his turn-around time on rejigs of the design was sometimes 15 minutes. Needless to say, were were over joyed with Armanno. The other winning header was more straight forward in design, so the extra contact wasn't required. Armanno's da best, and, I think, if not only than mostly found on webmaster-talk. Thanks to all.
Now, I gotta figure out how to work with vectors to get full value from the great designs. gp
