How do I got about printing posters what type of printer do I need? wha type of paper? they would be those big posters that you buy in shops please help!

Create a custom page size that's the same proportions as your intended poster size.

For example, if your poster's to be 3 by 4 feet (36 x 48 inches) choose File, Page Setup and set the slide dimensions to, say, 3.6 x 4.8 inches).

Caution If you change the proportions of your slide after it's been created, you may distort the graphics and text on the slide. If your slide's already done and you need to change the proportions, start a new presentation, change its slide proportions, then select and copy the graphics from your original slide onto a slide in the new presentation.

When you're ready to print:

• Choose File, Print
• Pick the driver for your large format printer
• Click Properties and choose an appropriate page size
• Either choose the printer driver's option to scale output to your chosen paper size or choose "Scale to fit paper" option in PowerPoint's print dialog box
• Click OK to start printing

But what type of printer? and what type of paper the ones in the shops are almost laminated gives a shiny effect

They're called poster-size printers; check your office supply distributors, you typically have to order them. However, unless you're doing a lot of large scale printing it will not be cost-effective for you to buy one. I always take my files to a printer or refer my client to the one I use. But if you do decide to look into buying one, ask your local printers about them. Many use them for small batches and the 4-color presses for the bulk stuff.

And you never start small and upsize with posters. You create an Illustrator file the dimensions of the poster. You can, in some cases, convert something to a vector and upsize but keep in mind that it can still pixelate and look like garbage when you blow it up. The higher res and the closer in size the original is to the final the better.
