i am looking for a photoshop custom shape (or if any of the pros can advise on another technique).

you know on tv when somone sees an ad in a newspaper and circles it with a thick black marker, well that's the effect i'm looking for but for the life of me can't find anything like it.

to be honest it has been one of the few things where google has been no help at all simple because i don't know what to look for.

what would you call it other than maybe a hand-drawn circle.

if it's not obvious from my poor explanation i'm pretty new to photoshop and graphic design so any newbie-friendly assistance would be appreciated.

i know this can be done by drawing with a paint brush but i don't have a tablet and my mighty mouse produces terrible results.

You don't really need a custom shape, you could do this fairly easily with the shape tool and a brush stroke.
