Okay this is going ot sound kinda dumb, but i recently came into owning Fireworks... So the other night I thought I'd play around with it a little bit and see what the big deal is... I know a lot of people who design with it and are thrilled with it...

I got as far as cutting out a picture and then got confused... Is fireworks ment to cut things up for HTML or are there special effects and stuff with it that people use that i just haven't found yet?

haha, this probably sounds dumb, but what is it?

Yes...there are special fx...btw, u can install some photoshop plug-ins to create such fx...

I do everything on fireworks, even for using in flash animations...for me, its the first step i take for creating multimedia and sites...

here u can download some samples of works that were totally drawn in fireworks and animated in flash...(btw...is it correct to say IN flash or ON flash? thx!)

I do alot of my sites designs from Fireworks and then import them into Dreamweaver.
The animation may take a little longer to set up in Fireworks but I sometimes find I have more control over it then I do with Flash or Swish.

It took me several weeks of going through turtorials and reading books such as Playing With Fire before I could appreciate it so just give it a bit more time and Im sure you will love it too.

Yep Fireworks is THE tool for graphic web design imo. Despite its looks its a deep/powerful program. Look through some tutorials try Ultraweaver/Phireworks etc learn how it all works. I dont claim to be brilliant at it (*yet) but its an excellent program with a short learnign curve.

I agree with the other posts that fireworks is the way to go. I actually learned Fireworks first before Photoshop and still find it alot easier to use and learn. While Photoshop has some more complex features in some areas fireworks seems to work seemlessly with Flash and also for just editing pictures to put in your pages.

Other diehard Photoshop folks may disagree but that's just my 2 cents.

error 404... ****, could never do that with photoshop :P

and of course fireworks and flash integrate well together, they are both made by macromedia!

i dunno wots easier to use fireworks or photoshop, i find photoshop a little easier to use plus it has more features...so

photoshop > fireworks

:P

The two are different programs used for different tasks in my view. I use fireworks all the time - it's an easy vector based program (essential for graphic creation) with some good bitmap tools (i.e. editing photos for example). Photoshop is largely a bitmap program if I'm not mistaken.

Fireworks also has the advantage of integrating into the other macromedia products like flash and dreamweaver.

Photoshop IS an industry leader but fireworks is a different program in a class of its own.

Yeah it is great for editing photos but unless you upgrade to firworks mx 2004 you won't get red eye reduction, which is a great feature when dealing with a lot of closeup pics of people.

Ok, just reading your post, Id have to state, I taught FW for a while, and although I had to be passionate as a trainer, I found it tiresome, slow to load its slices, and would never recommend someone design a whole site by it. Just my wee thought, please pm me for more ideas! They are free!

cheers scotia
