Hello to all,

I just wanted to get an idea of what works the best for everything? To me photoshop does it all, yet maybe there is something that illustrator and fireworks can do that is better.

What I am trying to do is make a header with a menu bar that I can use for my site. The problem is that I want the layers for each word like home, forums, links etc to change colors. But what I am unsure about is how to get this to happen.

For an example,

Home is an orange color, when moused over it turns red. I am wondering if I need flash to do this or some sort of actionscript? Or maybe just leave it as layers and link them to where I want and maybe this will allow for faster upload times.

Any ideas would be great.

A better solution would be to use CSS to change colour on mouse over. This resource has explanations on how to code many different menu layouts.

Any of the programs you listed will do to make buttons - but leave them BLANK and use them as backgrounds. Use CSS and REAL TEXT to construct the menu, including the hover state.

Ok, So make the buttons using a graphic editor and then just add text using Dreamweaver? Say you go to some template stores and they have an adobe template and then your html template. The adobe always seems to have the buttons already listed with text. So what you saying is just make my buttons and then add the text with html, or maybe to add the text with some program, and then make the button a link when clicked?

I made a comment in another area about sprys. I liek what they do, yet I keep getting action script yellow bars taht come up, so I am trying to find away that I can add nice navigations to a forum like this one.

Thank you so much for your time

Add the text in the HTML, style the background image in CSS.

Really all you need for the rollover is 2 identical buttons with diff color...one orange and one red. You can do it in DW by going to insert-media objects-rollover image...and selecting the 2 that you're using. Regarding your menu buttons...tho CSS would be the more preferred method, i've noticed a lot of probs with CSS in DWCS3, and it can be mindwrecking. For that it should be fine to just save your buttons with the text in photoshop or whatever you're using, and again another one of diff color for the rollover. I'm about to start writing my CSS by hand, cuz it seems that DW has too many quirks.
