Hi,
Do you have adobe flash? When you buy the template, does it say you can edit the flash?

If you have adobe flash, like kev said, try to locate a .fla file. Simply open it up with flash, and then locate the layer, where the text is created. Make any changes you may please and then republish it as a .swf.

That is because it's probably in a non-standard font and that is the only way you can keep that font face and still have it show the same on anyone's machine.
Add a new symbol - add your text in the font you want. Next, with the text selected, do Edit - Break Apart - twice - that will "disconnect" the text from the font file and turn it into a shape. Regroup the shapes if needed to keep the 'text' together.

Would I then have to readd the animation? Or is there a way around that? And can flash change an swf to fla and how? If not, what freeware is out there that does the job or will I have to buy something?
There are some flash decompilers out there, but most of the free ones I know of won't decompile actionscript and tween animations get converted to frame-by-frame animations, which is a pain and ineffeicient.

The only other thing is that when I edited the text before, flash would publish it and I would get something that is messed up and the animations don't work properly. What steps would I have to do?
It doesn't work in IE because you're using that nasty <embed> tag, and IE's security will stop it from being displayed. I suggest you look at the stickies in the HTML forum for other solutions.
Just seeing the SWF isn't helpful. If you bought this template, then there should be instructions on how to change the text in the flash.
