What does it matter which one you think is better? Why pose the question?

Just use the app that works for you. I use FW and it does everything I need it to.

I used to be a Fireworks guy, but now I think Photoshop is by far the most powerful. I do occasionally use Fireworks if I badly need something with decent vector capabilities though.

Photoshop is much more powerful than fireworks but fireworks is not bad either. It depends on which type of work you are doing

Well Fireworks is more setup for "web graphics" - while Photoshop is for, well, photos - but Photoshop is a well rounded application yes

Don't forget that photoshop is an image manipulation software & a Paint/Raster Program, while fireworks / Illustrator are Vector programs that work with points/Paths.

I'm mainly a 2D Vector graphics Designer. While I don't use Adobe software I am still familiar with them & their capabilities. I simply make sure my final files are compatible with a wide range of software so the client can easily edit no matter what they own.

well theres not much option to do the opposite, unless you use psd or whatever with photoshop.

When I save a image, you save a copy in PSD for later editing, and a PNG or whatever for sending across the internet

sure there's options... If I provide layered formats in Vector/Paint/Post script, on can edit my design in any software.

Example of layered/vector formats I provide: .Eps / .Ps / .Pdf / .Svg / .Wmf / .Emf / .Tiff / .Dpa

You can run through any of the softwares you own in the "import file" or "import image" sections & I'm sure you'll find a few that I listed compatible

Makes life much easier with compatible formats, I agree.....
