Optimizing Images in Photoshop

I am having trouble with optimising images through photoshop. I use "Save for Web and Devices" and no matter how I configure the settings and which file type I use, I can't seem to stop my images losing a lot of their color.

Could I please get some suggestions on how I could optimize my images differently, or what I am doing wrong?

Here is a link to an image I have optimized with different settings:

What exactly are you trying to achieve, what resolution for what purpose ?
For photos, JPG is still the better choice over PNGs, and you can adjust the quality of the final image in the 'save for web' settings. Save for web is always going to reduce a JPG to 72dpi, so it you want a higher res JPG, don't use 'save for web' use SAVE AS, choose JPG, then adjust your settings as needed.

PBLK,

Ladynred is right if you want a higher resolution don't use save for web. Also, make sure you're in RGB color mode.

When you save for web & devices there should be an arrow in the top right corner of the window. There you can change from 'uncompensated color' to 'use document color profile'.

With this option selected your images will retain their profiles and you won't lose any colour when you output.

Save with photoshop as PNG , then open with ACDSEE PRO 2.0 and batch convert the file to jpeg/gif then compare the quality/size and chose the one that suits your needs.
I found that ACDSEE file size/quality is better than photoshop`s export thing.

use save for web and devices only when sliceing stuff up or for gifs for the matte color property, otherwise use save as
